I'm thinking of doing a mesh mod on my Eheim 1260. The LPH on my skimmer is about 950 with the stock Eheim. Will my LPH increase dramatically? I'm not doing it for more air, just for finer bubbles (Eheims are great, this is an experiment only). So if I do it, and my LPH goes to say - 1,300LPH - can I clamp it down to bring it down under 1,000LPH and still keep fine bubbles? My skimmer is only 8" wide and about 25" tall total.

Also does anyone know if this has been done with a 1260? Any links?

Thanks!

David

Dav, My friend Loc01 try it on the Eheim 1260 and 1262 hobby pump, it works very well in his DIY protein skimmer. When he was using ER needle wheel, the pump pulled 600+ lph with DIY venturi and lots of back pressure to the pump. When he mod the meshwheel, each pump pulled approx 1000lph. You can find all the picture and video in his Redhouse.

Thanks much guys. I'm going to have to try this. Steve is that your skimmer? I hope so!

BTW, I bought a BM150 just to play with. I have a skimmer addiction. Its going to clkwrk soon though. He'll have to be the final judge. :)

I look forward to seeing the results from this Fliger! If the foam is thicker, I'll hop on your coat tails and follow along ;) Thanks for stepping up!

Cheers,

Jim

David, that is not my protein skimmer. Here is mine with 2x1260 H&S pumps. But i sold it already, now i am with the beast

The protein skimmer body is 9" OD, 6.5" neck, 30" tall. Work great tho.

Here is my new toy

I need a skimmer with a 6.5" neck... this 3.5" is such a joke.

Fliger, let me know how it goes. I dont really have much hope for the eheim, the shroud is pretty small, and methinks deltec/H&S are already doign a pretty good job of maxing it out.

Definitely gonna keep an eye on this thread as well. Are you modding the stock Eheim impeller? I was gonna buy an Eheim impeller just to try this out, but I'm not sure how I would change it up to become a meshwheel. I guess a dremel would do a bulk of the job cutting grooves in the impeller so that fishing line can be tied around it?

I havent seen an eheim impeller, but I would just drill 6 holes in the impeller (drill 3 sets of pairs right next to each other) and use small zip ties to secure the mesh. Contact Mavgi, he is the best source for this mod.

Thanks for the info and I'll keep y'all posted. I do have to say that the thread that got me thinking about this is hilarious. People justifying a $129 pump being worth $600 when the same exact pump from H&S is $299 is quite hilarious. As someone who's made a good living in Marketing, we love those folks. I'd never try this on a Deltec because I'd hate to replace my pump for $600 - or $550 or whatever it was.

Ridetheducati - I had BK300 Ext last year. Its incredible, the best NW skimmer. I think the main difference is bubble size. I do think H&S/Deltec have excellent LPH/skimmer size/bubble size - but I'd like to see if I can get smaller bubbles. I'd like to run high LPH with smaller bubbles so I might have to cut my standpipe return shorter and run the water very low. I dunno if it'll make a difference but I'll try it. :)

 Yeah, platium!

Well, hopefully Mavgi will contribute to this thread. He's really gotten some huge air draw with his meshpad mods.

Well, that thread got closed

Saw that one coming :)

Hopefully this thread will be able to shed some light on this topic!

Deltec replacement part prices are absurd. BTW, ER Eheim NW pump is $250.
