I have a rock of ricoreda in my tank that seem wery unhappy. They dont open very much and are dropping off the rock not sure what is going on. I have many mushrooms in the tank all are doing well it is just this rock of rics it is next to a rock of rics that is doing just fine. Any thoughts?

Are they Rics or Yumas. Some Yumas are a bit touchier when it comes to flow/light. Maybe move the rock to a shadier and lower flow area.

rics are low light. place them on the bottom in a low flow area or near an overhang. if they are dropping off rocks then they dont like where they are.

Maybe tell us what lights you have? I have rics and I have them very close to the top of my tank and they are very happy....I have T5's 4 x 54 over a 75G...My understanding is the rics like brighter lights than regular shrooms.....not less light??? Only other thought is one is getting more flow as noted above.

well scuba I guess it depends where and what you read..below is a site that says just the opposite....
http://www.thesea.org/ricordea/ricordea_florida.htm

"Florida Ricordea mushroom coral are quite colorful and are native to the Caribbean. They require intense aquarium lighting to remain bright and beautiful in your reef aquarium. Since the Florida Ricordea is native to the Caribbean it is necessary to have extremely strong lighting if you want the Florida ricordea to be vibrant and beautiful in your aquarium."

Again, it would be helpful to know what lights he has.....PC or T5 I can tell you mine thrive near the top.....maybe MH you move them middle to lower???

Mine are under 250W SE MH about mid tank. I had the lights running for 10 hours a day and the Rics would not extend fully, cut the lighting cycle down to 6 hours and they extended out fully and are doing much better. I have decent current flow in my tank as well and they seem to prefer stronger water flow as long as it is not blasting them direct.

as with many other corals they can be acclimated to higher light over time. as a rule of thumb I observe starting them low in the tank with low flow. i've had great success with them fully opening & reproducing under these conditions. I have a few that reproduce up to a dozen heads per year. If you have some that are happier under higher lighting then go for it.

these rics are dropping off rocks therefore they are unhappy where they are be it high or low light or flow.
