Ricordia & Ricordia Yuma

Are these the same thing?

Ricordia is the particular type of mushroom these are - of that there are two sub genres (I am not good enough to tell you if its a family or a class or you know that type of classification)

One is ricrodia florida and the other is ricordia yuma... Yumas tend to have uneven "bumps" or tentacles? nubs? - some not the same size as the other and ones that are on its mouth. The mushrooms overall shape is typically symmetrical\round?

The floridas are more even all over as far as bump size with no bumps present on the mouth and these can grow a few mouths on one polyp and not split and even grow into oblong and weird shapes.

Yes, they look like yumas, but a better picture will be more helpful.

Ricordea Yuma also grows larger than Ricordea florida, and sometime comes in some spectacular colors, that one can not find in Ricordea florida. However, yumas can be a bit touchy. They prefer low intensity lighting, and very stable water parameters, so a beginner may find it a bit challenging. Quite the opposite, Ricordea florida does well under more a bit more intense illumination, and can actually live and thrive under not so perfect water parameters. As a result, it’s more popular. Also, less expensive.

I've got at least 50 of these. The larger ones are about 4" in diameter. Had them for about 4 years now.

They're also right about the low light thing. . . I had tried a couple in my 20 gallon tank at the bottom under 65 watts of 50-50 pc. They melted away. LOW LIGHT!

And this is after my local store told me they need higher light. Sure, whatever.

At least now you know not to listen to LFS employees and to do your own research. Always a hard (and expensive) lesson learned...

I had these in the top of my old 90 with dual 400 watt halides and they looked great. Also have had them under vho, pc, and t-5's
