Right out of the box

I just got a 50mm 1.8 for my Canon XT 350D all of which is new to me. Have an s500 from Canon and wasn't too happy with what I was getting for images so opted for a DSLR. So heres a couple factory setting shots.

My favorite..best zoos I've ever had. I fiddled with with image a bit but nothing drastic.

Came out real nice- real sharp and great colors. I've got a suggestion regarding the first shot, which should help with other shots in the future. But first- your Fox coral has flatworms- thought I better point that out in case you weren't aware.
Anyhow- the first picture is a little overexposed. To adjust for this in-camera you can try setting exposure compensation- check it out in the manual and if you need help just holler. I'm not sure if you can apply exposure compensation in full auto mode- you might want to try P [program] mode. You'll want to set negative exposure compensation (maybe 2/3 of a stop) to make it a little darker overall.

Thanks and yes I know the worms are there. Thanks for the tip. I'm just sort of overwhelmed at the moment at just how good stuff looks right out of the box. Can't wait to realllly learn what I'm doing.
