Right time to buy LR?

I'm thinking right time of year, that is. I'm so close to being ready to get my tank going I can taste it.

Should I wait until the weather warms up to make an order? I'm looking really hard at the Fiji premium on liveaquaria.com. But since I'd be getting it sight unseen, I want to make sure I get some good stuff. Anyone get LR from these guys, and how is it? Thanks.

I see no point to wait till a certain season to buy live rock. I mean...live rock is live rock. Its all got the bacteria. Hitchikers are just random freebies (wether they're good or bad)

I say go for it whenever you want ;)

Gotcha. I just have a few more kinks to work out in the tank, then I can move it into the house. Then I think I'm close to being ready to order.

So liveaquaria...ever buy rock from them? Anyone?

Honestly, i have only heard 2 reviews from Live aquaria. Both were saying that the rock was terrible, but maybe they just got a rare, bad batch.

Go with Premium Aquatics. Heard nothing but rave reviews. Hey, you already paid a ton, what's a little more for rock you know is going to be good!

I got my live rock right from the store at Foster and Smith which is the same as Live Aquaria, same people. I hand picked my rock but it is some nice stuff.

I got mine from Premium Aquatics, it is their Marshall Island. The pics give you an idea of the shapes they come in. I got the cured version and it was just that. The pics are of 65 lbs in a 75 gallon tank to get an idea of how much you might need. Full tank, left and right detail. The tank is only a couple of months old so the coraline is just now starting to take off, the blue is purple in real life by the way. I am going to be ordering some more soon and I think I want some smaller pieces this time so I can put some in the foreground and do a bit of stacking. I got pretty big pieces which are cool too.

I live in their 2 day ground zone so shipping was really cheap. Looks like you are out West so your may be a different story.

I have heard lots of nice things about liveaquaria too. One guy ordered the fiji premium, turns out it wasn't so premium as it was small pieces. He complained and they sent him a new box totally free.

Not sure if that helps you or not but you know kind of what to expect in PA's Marshall Island rock if you decide to go that route.

Good luck!

I would definatly go with Premium aquatics. I have shopped there dozens of times, never a single prob w/lr or livestock or drygoods.
very competitive pricing.

I ordered two seperate times from them, both times I got 22lbs of Fiji. I can say enough about it. The rock was full of color, didn't smell and it was very well packaged. I would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

IMHO The right time for me was through a local break down. (Someone tearing down a tank)

Budget wise and coraline growth wise it was a win, win! $2.00 a lb. included some mushrooms and I was able to pick the pieces that I wanted. (Check local reef club forums and the selling forums and you may be able to save alot and help out a local reefer.)

Good luck either way.

I ordered from Liveaquaria last year for my 20L and I really dislike the rock they sent me. Nothing like what was advertised.

This time (this month) I ordered from Premium Aquatics. I have a 29aga and here is 35lbs of uncured Marshall Island. There isn't one piece of rock that I don't love and I had THE hardest time trying to decide which way to place them. They don't have a bad side !
