Rimless 100 Gallon Build

So, I bought a 100 rimless glasscages a year ago, figured it was time to get it setup.
Background: I currently have a 40 breeder that grows a clam and fish great. However all LPS and SPS die. I have changed lights, salt, rock, everything except the tank and sump. THe guy I got it from stated it was never dosed with anything. It tests negitive for copper, but all I know is there is something in it that kills corals. Parameters are always spot on. The inside of the existing overflow is paint black and is always losing some amount of paint. I think perhaps this maybe my coral killer, no idea what else it could, it has been like this for 2 solid years. I had a biocube thriving filled to the brim with LPS and some SPS, and within 6 months this tank killed about all of it.

One thing I am worried about is that the rock has absorbed whatever this toxin is and will release it in the new tank, time will tell. I prefer not to throw it away as it is the $$ Aquaroche and was over $200. One thing is, I will be cutting my tower down to a shorter height, as its 18" tall, which is a bit high.

Equipment:
100 Glasscages rimless
Welded my own steel stand, its at the powder coaters - hopefully done tomorrow. It will be open, without panels. Sump is going to be in the basement.
SRO 2000 INT ordered, but back ordered, probably wont see it until sometime next week.
2 bags of tropic eden and 1 bag of mini flakes on their way for a SSB.
LumenBrite mini with 400 watt XM, this bulb will be changed to perhaps a 10k EVC for growth of the sticks. Only running a single light - for now.
Ice Cap Electronic ballast.
Glass Holes 700 GPH Overflow
3/4 glass holes return
Gen X PCX40 pump

Im not sure if Im just doing a return section and skimmer section in the sump or what. Dont think I'm going with a fuge. Thoughts from those without a fuge, anything I need to consider.

Well if you are worried about your rock I think you can use some acid to clean it out, I'm not sure the name but if you look around for how to clean copper out of rock I am sure you will find it. I think it is muriatric acid.

Also from what I have heard the copper tests are not good enough to tell you if you have all traces of copper out of the tank. I know there is something out there that does a better job but again I can't remember the name.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Not sure if its copper, as everything else but coral is fine (shrimp inverts etc) I have a clam that is doing awesome. Could always run Seachem CupriSorb. I really wonder if its something to do with the overflow completely painted with spray paint, and its peeling and has been since I got it. As a side note, I had a Cadlights 22, and as coral was dying I would put it in the cadlights, that had sand, rock, and same water as the 40, and the corals did awesome. then when i broke that down, I put them back in the 40 and bam, dead. We are talking everything from a hammer to SPS, all of which did great in my biocube and never did worth a damn in the 40.

I really want to use that rock.

Drilled it and got it in late Friday night, man it was heavy.

All plumbed and leak free, now waiting for it to clear before transfering livestock. Still need to add trim to hide plywood and foam.

absolutely beautiful, I have always wanted to do a 100g Rimless build myself.

tropical eden sand is w/o a doubt my favorite substrate.
