Hi

The benifits to a rimless tank are a large open area of water to provide more ventilation for cooling (no trapped heat from lights - better air movement); easier access for aquascaping and maintainance; and better viewing both for photos and in general.

Sii senor. I'm going to be taking the black trim off in a few minutes. Apparently you have to leave it on for 3 weeks before you can peel it off.
Fixed links w/ new plumbing.

I picked up a 34g Solana tank this weekend so I guess I'm a member now :D

Anyone know if Solana bottom panes are tempered or not? I would sure like to tie it in with the rest of the 600 gallons in the house and only run one big skimmer and heaters in the basement etc...

tsouth,

Is that the tank stand to the left there?
Where did you get/build/buy that? More details and pics of that too!
Shoot more details and pics of your planned setup/equipment/livestock etc...whaddya say?

Also the previous pic had the drilled holes, looks like you added the OverFlow to the back there, did you make that yourself? Can you show us some detail pics of that, inside, back, etc?

That's my bed lol although I will be building my stand within the upcoming weeks. I think i'll go out and purchase the wood today actually. We shall see. The tank is drilled for a return and drain. I purchased the return and 700gph overflow kit from www.glass-holes.com I HIGHLY recommend their products. They drilled the overflow box for me perfectly and definitely hooked me up w/ all the plumbing pieces needed. Here are some pics of their custom overflow boxes. They integrate a custom baffle to quiet down the noise. Water flows into the box and then goes under and up. It's hard to explain but hopefully you get the idea.

I'll be transferring all of my old inhabitants from my 55. I've only been in this hobby for 9 or so months so my list of goodies isn't as up to par as all of you expert reefers :P The tank will be a mixed reef but w/ a good amount of everything. I've just upgraded my lights this past march to t5ho's so I've just tip toed into the realm of sps corals but I sure do love them.

Hi Everyone

I am FINALLY getting my rimless tank made.

They dont know a lot about rimless tanks here in Bangkok, so I have had to do most of the design work. Here are the measurements. I have used the rimless tank calculator on from this link http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/diy/57295-rimless-aquarium-glass-thickness-calculator.html

48" x 29.5" (W) x 27.5" (H). Base is in 19mm normal float glass and sides in 15mm Diamant. The base will be eurobraced as in this picture.

IMG_3911Medium-1.jpg

The overflow (external) will be cut 2.5 in lower than the rim to allow for water movement from the two Vortechs.

The author of the rimless tank calculator program says it is "based on "How to Calculate the Glass Thickness for your Aquarium" by Warren Stillwell.
http://www.fnzas.org.nz/articles/tec...lass_complete/

The program says the side deflection should be .35mm and with a safety factor of 4.36. Base deflection should be .33mm with a safety factor of 3.82

The tank will have a 4 inch deep sand bed. Not sure if this makes any difference to things.

Please let me know what you think. I originally thought to go with 19mm glass for the sides/front/back, but cost has ruled that out. If the heights too much I can scale back to 25.5" tall I guess.

Hi Dingdong03

Great tank.. What thickness of glass is that in?

It's going to look great when you get it up and running.
