My GlassCages rimless (Starfire) 70g tall (36" wide) will be here next Saturday! I ordered the black silicone and standard reef-ready internal overflow.

Any thoughts/opinions on or experiences with GC rimless tanks?

Will I need to let the silicone cure for any length of time before filling it up?

A couple of folks have expressed concern with the strength of the rimless design, suggesting these tanks will experience a sudden catastrophic failure - any possible truth to this, or are these as strong as need be?

Many tanks,

Your Tank will come with a born on date. Your supposed to wait 3 weeks from that date. I only had to wait 3 days by the time it was delivered.

I had no problems at all out of GC. They are not the best build quality on the fit and finish side. The price is right though. I priced my size out with many companies and they all at least double the cost. Shipping is the issue, GC does most of there shipping themselves.

I would buy from them again. I think Elos will be my next though.

I have ordered 3 tanks from GC without any problems. Shipping is problem for most and sometimes cost prohibitive.

I would check their delivery schedule and meet them at location. It's usually a fraction of the cost when compared to shipping.

how long do the custum tanks from gc take them they will be here in tampa sept 27 when do you think i would need to order by to pick up then? also do you know isthey make larger rimless like 72 Lx 30 W x 24 H. I dont see any larger ones listed? the only 72" long they show is only 12" deep

awesome thread. i am just starting my build now. my tank will be in on the 27th of this month and i am now choosing lighting. i will be getting a 60 gallon rimless cube and plan on lighting it with a lumenbright 3. i also ordered some pukani rocks from bulk reef. and i will start my tank build hopefully this weekend

I've just finished the doors here. Decided to do something simple and not so bland. I haven't mounted them but i'll get around to it once i find some nice hinges since euro's aren't an option.

This design has been used in Europe for a very long time. My first tank in Poland in the mid-70's was a 50L simple rimless design that kept my guppies happy for a very long time.

Absolutely awesome job. I really like the overflow. GC's Overflow is huge and takes up a lot of room. Nice.............

Wow. Awesome tanks all. I want to start a rimless tank soooo bad. But being a student and working part time doesn't warrant spending almost as much on my tank, as the lights. But if I did go rimless, I know I would love it. Maybe around the holidays when we get more hours. Also, with glasscages.com, is the only way for them to ship your tank is for you to pick it up, they dont use UPS at all?

They drive their aquariums to designated locations in your state/city. You then meet the truck and go from there. Usually no more than 30 minutes away from you I would think.

This needs to stay alive

This is probably a dumb question, but whats the point of the egg-crate going up the back side of the tank on the right?

-RYknow

probably a place to put the foam on. If you look at the tank on the left side you can see the eggcrate with foam on top of it.

I picked up my new 70g rimless! from GC.

Are the AGA pine stands strong enough to properly support these heavy tanks? The dimensions are correct (36x18) and AGA sells this stand to support their 65g........but I'm suspicious.

Has anyone here used the AGA pine stands on their GC rimless successfully?

Prodman how many gallons is that?

I guess this a little late but its 36x36x22 120 gallons. It will be arriving tuesday and I am excited to say the least.

It's not much, and it's not very pretty...but, here is my new 17" cube that is water testing in the basement. I built it ONLY because I have the glass ordered for my new 36"x30"x24" tank that I'll be building in the next couple of weeks and I figured I should at least build something before trying my hand at a big tank. So far it's holding water :D THis cube will be an experimental tank for seeing how corals will grow under only natural sunlight in my south-facing dining room window.

The silicone work looks bad...I waited too long to pull the masking tape off!

Yup, an Ozzie Rimless in Bangkok

OK, here it is. I know it isnt as neat as an ELOS, but.... 120cm x 75cm wide x 65cm tall (48 inch x 30 x 26). Base is 19mm normal float and the walls are 15mm Diamante glass (due to factory stuff up giving me all walls in Diamante, instead of the overflow wall in normal float). A shame as I will paint the overflow side black. Rimless with base bracing. It was built at my apartment by the tankmaker

The stand design is courtesy of Marlon on the Modern Reef Aquariums thread on ReefCentral.com â€"œ many thanks to his permission to use the design. The stand arrives on the 30th of August.
Hopefully it looks similar :-p

It took me 6 tank and cabinet makers before I found one willing to make the cabinet as I want. It will be spray painted with car spray paint in silver and white.
