Rimless Aquarium Club

i have a deep blue 60 gallon frag 48x24x12....when i filled it with water i noticed that the waterline is off by 1/4" front to back(higher in the back)...its the floor thats off not the tank or stand....i keep going back and forth on shimming or not.....im worried that when i shim that some spots on the stand will be off the ground.....what would you do? is a 1/4" off on a tank thats only 12" tall a big deal?....

I'd shim it for sure. Even though your tank is only 12" deep, 1/4" off in only 24" is a lot IMO. You can always shim the stand then just get a small piece of trim to cover the gap if it bothers you.

That's a nice tank!

What kind of sand are you using?

Do you have one mp40 on the back side and one on the right side of the tank? I was thinking of putting 2 of them on the each side of the back of the tank or maybe just go with the traditional way and have them both on the sides but have one more towards the back side and the other more towards the front if that makes sense.

The sand I'm using is 60lbs of Tropic Eden Grand Select Aragonite that I bought from premium aquatics. Great stuff.

For aesthetic reasons, I tried to put both mp40w's on the back, but I did not like the flow I was getting. I left one in the back and do have one on the right side and like it much better. I have the vortech settings at Reefcrest random with both pumps synced up.

AC-WEB are you happy with your CAD Artisan and skimmer? Great looking tank.

I have been happy. I think my biggest worry was that tank would hold up through the shipping. I did as I was warned, when Fedex freight delivers, you want to open everything and check everything out while the driver is still there in case anything broke or cracked. Otherwise, it can be tough to get a replacement.

Well I joined the rimless club, sort of!

Deep Blue Pro Rimless 30gal frag tank (24"x24"x12")
I'm still waiting on a custom stand for the tank, as I want it wider than normal to accommodate a 24" sump underneath. Currently it has a 2x4 stand and is up and running. Euro Reef RS80 skimmer, AI Sol Blue module, AC Jr and more.

Build quality is nice, silicon is a little off in areas but otherwise not bad for the price. Since it's not my show tank, I didn't really want the best. It will be used to grow out frags to either go into the main display or to trade/ sell. It will be a stand alone tank as I don't have room near my main display.

Quick question; do any of you rimless guys have a mesh screen top? If so how do you mount it on your tanks? The wife really wants a small wrasse or a goby to go in this tank and I don't want it jumping on me.

I have been searching from some clear plastic clips that can slip over each corner and hold the mesh that way. They have been difficult to find, mostly because I'm not sure exactly how to search for them. My backup plan is using some clear plastic dowels to take the place of the aluminum window screen frame.

I would like to know what kind of fish you guys have had success with, with your rimless tank...I am looking to bump my 90 gallon rimless bio load but was looking for some opinions from others...

Where can I pick up an application? I ordered my 36" X 36" x 24" in January and just added the live rock and sand this past Thursday courtesy of Richard at TB Saltwater.

A link to my build if you are interested:

On the fence, hood or rimless, I could go either way

On the fence, hood or rimless, I could go either way

So the cycle on the 24" cube is nearly complete. I think I have another 10 days or so to go.

Here's the thing, I'm torn on the hood, that is yea or nay. Since opinions are easy to find here on RC, I figured I'd ask you guys!

I have a simple hood fabricated and it looks very nice. But I also like the rimless look. I'm be running a single AI SOL unit.

I'm curious what others are using to mount the AI Sol to the top of the tank. I don't like the ceiling suspension, I'd like something can mount to the top securely.

Dan in Dallas...

May I put my feet through the door of this club?
Let me show you my 36X20X20 65g before I dismantle it in two weeks...
Not the best pics but still.
