Rinsing Carbon

The instructions state to rinse the activated carbon under tap water until it is clear of dust. Doesn't the tap water contaminate the carbon and partially defeat it's purpose? I am going to use the carbon after a treatment of flatworm exit.

A small amount of tap water is not going to appreciably contaminate it, since there is not that much that will bind to the carbon in tap water. I use tap water to rinse it. But if you want to rinse in DI water, that is certainly fine and possibly better. :)
