RIP Catalaphyllia jardinei

Today is a sad day that I've known was coming for about a week now. I purchased this australian elegance coral on black friday from live aquaria only because I couldn't pass up the 60% discount. To my surprise it quickly became my favorite coral..absolutely beautiful! About a week ago I noticed holes around the edges of the skeleton and posted pictures. Someone on this board suspected gall crabs. I never saw any crabs...just holes and something that looked like a feather duster growing out of the side. I decided to throw in the towel on the coral and pulled it from the sandbed only to notice a huge crater in the side where the feather duster was growing. Was this the cause of death? Did I kill it or was this coral doomed from the start?

There is no way to know what killed the coral. The problems with the parasites had been going on a long time, which could have made it sensitive. also sometimes the hitch hikers die and cause problems as they decay. I would send the foto to live aquaria and ask them. I am sure if they felt it was cause by the condition of the coral they shipped- they might replace or offer the same discount. Never hurts to ask- especially with fotos and such.

I don't question for a minute that live aquaria will stand behind their livestock 100%. As far as I'm concerned, they are the best!
