RIP nigripes

I lost both my nigripes within almost exactly 24 hours of each other this weekend, very suddenly and totally unexpectedly. The tank is almost six months old, and water parameters all seem good (1.25 SG, kH about 8.2, 78F, no ammonia/nitrites/nitrates, etc).

The clowns seemed in good health just a few days ago. They ate well and were finally beginning to exhibit some pair-bonding behavior (no small victory for me, since the female was so aggressive that I had to remove all other fish from the tank and place her in a breeder box for several days before letting her have contact with the male).

They didn't show any signs of illness that I was aware of. They had become a little skittish, but I didn't worry about it since they seemed fine otherwise. The only thing I can think of is that they were exposed to something at my LFS, since the owner houses CB livestock with WC. (I got the male two weeks ago, after the female rejected her first intended mate.)

It's very discouraging. I only had these fish for about a month, but I got very attached to them. They were beautiful and had so much personality. It's so upsetting to lose fish for no apparent reason. I almost threw in the towel on clownfish after this weekend. But instead I'm going to let my tank remain fishless for about six weeks, since I'm moving to a new apartment in early June anyway, and then try another pair of CB clowns--maybe even get up the courage to try another pair of nigripes.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss! I purchased a pair of CB nigripes from petco over the weekend. It's the first time I had ever seen this species offered and have wanted them for years! I knew they were a delicate species but this is discouraging to hear. :\

Thanks, and I'm sorry I had such a depressing story just as you got yours! Congratulations on your new acquisition--they're beautiful fish. Just keep a close eye on them. If it helps, I've always heard that CB nigripes are pretty hardy once they settle in. I don't think my experience was typical. I hope they thrive for you. :)
