Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg?

It's OK.
It's about half as good (or large) as the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga.
Ripley's is one of the "cookie cutter" aquariums like the one in Cincinnati (actually, Newport, KY). They have a standard design - once you've seen one, you've seen them all.
If you're going to go, at least see if they offer a "behind the scenes" tour. The guide (or docent) won't be able to answer technical questions, but its usually educational anyway.

IMHO, Chattanooga is the KING of public aquariums in our region. I think it is even better than GA. I went to GA at the end of Feb. this year. I didn't like it. Ripley's is just average. Chattanooga was awesome. Newport is just average as well.

It's a tourist attraction but you will enjoy it if you like aquariums. Try the Natl Aquarium in Baltimore for a serious look.

I agree.

Baltimore is really nice.

the last time there I was there I was really impressed the coral reef display, best one I had seen at an aquarium for quite some time. It is small but nice.. Let me know if you are going down there anytime soon, I own two cabins that I rent out...

I'd give big double thumbs up to Chattanooga and Baltimore!

Anyone passing through those areas should definitely take a few hours to check them out. Well worth the price of admission.

We are heading down in June but have already booked a place to stay. Sounds like it is worth my time to see the aquarium though. Since I have not been to any for over 10 years.

Cabins? Where?

Yeh, my parents are on there way to Pigeon Forge right now.
I might get with you Chris, I could use a little mini vacation.

I liked it. Gatlinburg is a really cool little town though-- a really classy little place reminiscent of the village at Snowshoe.:p Yes, there is a mini amusement park, a haunted house (good one too) and an aquarium and a ski chair lift but it isn't built out like Pigeon Forge and has a totally different atmosphere. More adult-friendly and less for kids. Pigeon Forge on the other hand... is more like Niagra Falls (Canadian side) without the big water leak-- or Myrtle Beach without the sandbox and the giant pool. :bounce3:Go carts, arcades, indoor "skydiving" (pretty neat BTW), water slides, Dollywood, mini golf, giant people sling shots and bungee jump towers, hideous traffic jams and junk shops gallore. Both are a lot of fun! Just depends on what you are looking for. Oh yeah, Pigeon Forge is a dry town... or they don't sell booze on sunday or something pathetically stupid like that. Sorry about that little dig there but people who like to use the government to cram their religeous dogma down my throat really make me angry enough to chew out their arteries with my teeth and watch them bleed to death. Kind of like our own pathetically stupid law against selling hooch on sunday until after 1:00:blown:

The aquarium though, I thought was pretty nice. I wouldn't go to G.B. specifically for a trip there but if you are in the neighborhood...

Boy, did I go way off on a tangent or what ???
