How do you run your RODI system?

Do you run the system into your reserve water then have it shut off by a selenoid/timer?

or

Your allow an RO to fill a reservoir to a desired level, then shut down water production completely by a float valve and pressure.

or do you just run it into the sump and turn it off manually each time(bad idea).

How do you run it.. a auto control on and off for your RODI unit?

I have a float value. BUT I also shut it off manually after it fills especially if I plan on being away for any meaningful time.

I use a float valve in my reservoir so that when I am filling it, it can't overflow. But I don't try to keep the reservoir constantly topped off, but rather let it get close to empty and then fill it up all at once. The problem with using an RO unit to keep a reservoir constantly topped off is that the first minute or so of water from an RO is not as clean as it should be. Keeping a reservoir constantly topped off means that the unit is constantly cycling on and off, meaning you get a lot of that "first minute" water.

I think it's pretty obvious why you wouldn't want to hook one directly to your sump, manual or auto shut off. If anything goes wrong, you can kill your tank.

I am looking at automating my ro topoff to my reservoir by using a timer and selinoid. when the reservoir gets low the timer will kick in and fill the reservoir back up. then the sump is set with a float valve.
