RO/DI now what

Ok Doris got a RO/DI unit. I temporarily set it up on my counter and the TDS before the DI was 001~000 after was 000 does that sound right? Now I want to set it up with a float valve auto shut off. Anyone have a link for a good kit? Can I just use a large garbage can (new) or do I need a food grade container? Any other helpful hints about using one of these things?

I liked what Teena did. She can describe it better, so that she could tell how full her tank was, buy installing an exterior clear tube.

I don't have a unit yet, but will be in the market for a used one *hint hint anyone* in a couple of months, after we're more settled into the house. I moved in with hubby, and there's just not room for it right now betwee still unpacked boxes and remodeling projects.

ETA: I HATE BEING DYSLEXIC. I have to edit practically every post, because I always miss a typo, even when I proof. Grrr.

That sounds fine. Really you should test the tap's TDS to get a better idea of the filters function. It wouldn't be a bad idea to log the tap TDS, RO TDS and RO/DI TDS, as well as the date the filters went into service. I think Memphis tap TDS is 18-30. With RO/DI it goes to 0. When the cartridges need changing you will notice the TDS creeping up. I would change them at 2-3 TDS. The RO membrane's are really good and last a while if flushed periodically (every 1-2 months) for about an hour.

www.airwaterice.com has some nice set-up's. The ASOV and a Kent Marine float valve are really all you need.
Can I just use a large garbage can (new) or do I need a food grade container? Go with a Rubbermaid Brute can. Lowe's has them pretty cheap and so does Sam's. Be sure to get the caster base so you can roll it around (if thats your want). Or build a stand in the garage.

Really depends on where you'll be making water. My tank is in the kitchen so I tied into the refridge water feed and remoted the filter to next to my tank. Richard's RO/DI is in the garage so he tapped into the waterheater's FEED line. I stress, the water IN line, not the OUT or you'll boil the unit.
Some of the RO/DI company's sent a saddle valve with the kit to tap into the water feed lines. Don't use this. Goto Lowes, HD, wherver they have a decent plumbing section and get a Watt's T-fitting. It will let you splice into the water feed and be a proper fit and not some half-butted attempt that will probably leak.
Be sure to have something in the reseviour to keep the water moving or you'll grow funk and the O2 levels will drop. Both are bad news for your tank.

Yeah forgot to put it in the post but tap TDS was 78. Compared to 18~30 guess ours isnt so good. Oh well in a town this size I am just glad to have indoor plumbing.
PM me the www.removed for violation of our commercial policies.com please.

We got this used with no instructions. How do you flush it? I see F&S has a flush kit do we need that?
