RO/DI part ID

I got this part with my used RO/DI filter, and have no idea what it is or what it does. Can someone lend a machete to my understanding thicket? Do I need it?

I have the unit currently hooked up w/o it by way of a tap valve.

Never seen one....Looks like it may have fallen off the Hubble Telescope.......becauce it was not needed :dance:

Is it some sort of three way valve? I've got a similar three way that splits from the DI to the storage tank and polisher.

It's an auto shut off valve.

OK, looks like that one has four hoses, mine has 3. Any idea how to hook the 3 hose one up?
