My plan is to hook up a unit off the water heater

and then drill a hole through the wall to the tank(sump) and set up a automatic top off?

Is this feasible, what do I need to purchase?

You're going to need a Y-connector, one tap going to the heater; one to the ro/di (brass is ok, because it's before the ro/di), and you'll need a drain. The waste is abundant, about 4x the ro/di output, and you have to have a wastewater drain. I can't remember if water heaters have one. If it doesn't have, have you got a washing machine you can reach, for its drain?

make sure you tap the line on the cold side (the hot water side will prematurely ruin the filters) as far as the drain goes, you can use a condensate pump fopr an A/c unit, and run the hose to the outside, i used 3/8 tubing into 3/4 pipe, then to the outside of the house is a 2" line, it dumps on the ground right behind a bush that never gets watered in the summer, and the 2" line is large enough so it wont freeze, i can shoot ya some pics if you like, just PM me.

Thanks for the input, I do not see any type of drain in this closet, that pipe that appears to be a T is just a pipe coming out of the wall, have no idea why it's there. The nearest drain would be in the kitchen across the room, and that particular closet is surrounded by somebody else's condo on the 2 walls and my living room and dining area so my wife wouldn't be to happy with a pipe running through it. I'm going to have to rethink this, thanks again.
