RO/DI Size?

I have a 125 gal tank that is in dire need of an RO/DI unit. I can't imagine that I would need a unit that produces 125 gallons a day though. What size unit do you guys have in relation to the size of your tank?

get the genuine dowtec 75gpd ro membrane. The dow 75gpd membrane is 98% rejection rate at 50 psi. If you go higher for gpd, you lose rejection rate. and that makes your DI resin get used quicker.
If you need a lot of water at a sitting, get a rubber maid brute trash can, and fill that.

the 75 GPD unit will be just fine for your needs. As mentioned don't buy anything unless it has the DOW FILMTEC 75 GDP membrane (not a knock off, ge desal, DOW 100 GPD, applied membranes, etc)... just a true dow filmtec 75GPD.

Look at
AirWaterIce (typhoonIII model is very popular)
PurleyH20
Filterguys.biz
Buckeye Field Supply

If you call any one of those vendors, they will lead you in the right direction. The owners of PurelyH20 and Buckeye are RC members. The Filterguys site is pretty well renowned. AWI is a great company (many of use use their products. Stay away from the filterfirect and other "eBay" deals. If you want to buy from eBay PurelyH20 is a very reputable vendor with a top notch product.

The physical size and cost of a RO/DI unit is really the same regardless if the output is 15 GPD up to 100 GPD. The biggest advantage of a 75 GPD unit is it makes water faster than a 25 or 50 GPD. 2 to 3 times faster. As suggested earlier get one with a Dow Filmtec 75 GPD membrane for best results.

Wow, thanks for the advice guys...I didn't even know that it got that far down in to details. Never heard of a Dow Filmtec. Do you know all this just from shopping around or is there somewhere I can go to do the research on this?

My experience comes from working in water treatment my whole life. Most of the sites mentioned by bean have tips and techniques on them and they will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Its worth your time and money to check around a little so you don't get stuck with a one size fits all drinking water filter not designed for reef use, or even good drinking water for that matter.

I am in the water/ wastewater biz (in purchasing, at a systems integrator)as well, but i read a ton on the internet regarding ro/di units.

then i got myro/di unit from thefilterguys

i looked at the typhoon3, and it didnt match up to the oceanreef + from the filterguyz. thw filterguyz unit had a dual inline TDS meter, and a few other nice options that the typhoon didnt have. The typhoon3 is a good unit though.

so thats what i bought.. and it was even less money shipped to my door than the typhoon3 was nt even adding shipping after the discount that they had at the time.

I have a Kent Marine Maxxima 35GPD and I love it. It an Ro/DI unit and it is one of the best out there. 35GPD should be more than enough for you, but you must have pressure at 65 psi to get 100% output.

the dow filmtec 75gpd membrane has a 98% rejection rate at only 50psi. which is why its probably the best RO membrane out there.
