RO/DI to cook?????

If it were me i would, i wouldn't use tap because it can leech whatever is in your water (silicate, copper, chlorine, and other chemicals.)

Better to start off on the right foot, than later on.
 
The idea behind cooking the rock is to remove all the polutants from the rock. As this happens, the water becomes full of nutrients and needs to be changed. I would use the cleanest water I could find and do lots of changes along with the swishing of the rocks as they cook to get the rock as nutrient poor as possible.
