RO/DI Unit Opinions please

They do not come any better than Spectrapure. They have been doing water treatment for over 25 years and it shows in their equipment.
The $128 refurbished system will outperform any other system mentioned in this thread hands down and for much less money. Its long term operating cost and water quality will also be better.

Pretty bold statements here.

Can you explain why?

I need help picking one out also. I don't know the difference between each one. If someone can direct me in the right direction to purchase a good RO unit that would be awesome.

A basic RO/DI system requires 4 "stages". 2 prefilter stages, 1 RO stage, and 1 DI stage. 5 and 6 stage systems add additional prefilter stages and/or DI stages.

The purpose of having additional carbon prefilter stages is to take the load off the RO membrane if your tap water is REALLY crappy.

The purpose of having two DI stages is actually to save money. Normally, one throws out DI resin when it no longer outputs pure water (0 TDS). This can be expensive if you have a large tank, e.g. 500 gallons. To save a few bucks, you can use the first DI stage as a "prefilter" for the second DI stage. You can keep using the DI resin in the first DI stage until it outputs 5 TDS. Meanwhile, the second DI stage will be filtering nearly-pure water. The end result is that you get about 3X the life out of your DI resin compared to having only a single DI stage. Having a second DI stage can pay for itself in less than a year if your tank is 100 gallons or more. BRS sells a standalone DI canister with cartridge for $35. For me and my 110 gallon tank, it was a no brainer to add it to my existing 4-stage system.

This is what I bought... Can't beat the price, I'm getting 0ppm water. All good AFAIC.

Any idea if a BRS tds will fit? Looks like it will. Also is there any way to test my water to see how dirty it is before buying a RODI system?

Thanks for the link.

The lower priced unit will produce 0 TDS the same as the expensive unit.

isn't a nigher priced unit hopefully more efficient, and therefore creates less waste water? Vertex for example claims 1:1 waste water while many of the cheaper RO/DI units are in the 3:1 - 5:1 range.

If you are in a condo rental, where water is included, who cares. But if you are paying for your water, it may make a difference to you to get a more efficient RO/DI unit in the long run.

I have that same unit and am happy with it. Can't go wrong with BRS.
IT WORKS GREAT NO PROBLEMS, I BOUGHT MY AT BULK REEF SUPPLY GREAT PRODUCT.
