RO/DI unit

I was asking about getting a RO/DI unit for Christmas. Since I feel water quality is the most important thing in a tank I need a good unit. However, it also needs to be somewhat inexpensive. What does everyone suggest? I only have a 12 gallon tank so I don't need one with high output per day. Thanks for your input.

Try buckeyefieldsupply dot com. good deals, the customer service is okay, i would go with a 75gpd membrane as it has a 98% rejection rate.

They have pretty good prices and as far as customer service goes, I dont think they can be beat PERIOD !

I just got my ro/di unit last week from air water ice .com (RC wont let me type in the actual website) its the Typhoon III. I like it!

Got 0 TDS on 1st reading compared to 252 ppm from my tap water.

You and get 75 gpd or 100 gpd. I was told the 75 gpd has a better filter so I go the 75gpd.

The ocean reef+1 is $195 and comes with the dual inline tds meter, your choice of hook up for water supply (saddle valve, faucet,etc), and the system is built to order, I get 95-100ppm coming in from my tap water and 0ppm on the final end as well..

I chose the filter guys because they had a numerous amount of positive referrals here on reef central about how friendly and positive the customer service was, You could talk for hrs with Jim on the phone... How many other places do that

alot of the guys/gals here had good luck with the ebay units... I guess its all what you wanna spend and preference...

I went with the filter guys because I knew I was getting a quality product and IF there was ever an issue Jim would be on top of it for me

It comes with a tds meter, though it is not built into the unit. It is a 5 stage unit that cost $199. You have the choice of hook up also.

I purchased it on a recommendation from a friend, then searched info on the unit here on RC, which I found to be positive. Doesn't mean its better or worse than the one from filter guys. Just another choice.

You know I really should break down and do the math - but I have a 20 gal and still use the boxes of natural seawater for water changes and distilled water from Walmart for top off. I think with a small tank it really would take a long time for a RO/DI to reach the payback mark - not even counting the convienence (priceless?) Even ambitious water change schedule on a 12 gal shouldn't be more than 2 gal a week right?

I've tried to read up on using store bought waters for mixing salt and for top offs and found conflicting opinions. Right now I'm using the Walmart 'Culligan' machine. It says it is RO water with a UV filter. It only costs 33 cents per gallon so it's not pricey for me. What's the deal with distilled water? Would this be better? Any info is appreciated.

By the time I get the cube, we will be finished installing new water treatment equipment for the boiler feedwater at work. I used to use the DI water for my goldfish, but now we will have a new RO unit. I have asked for a more reasonable sample point so I will be able to get my fish water a little easier. If all the tests are OK I plan to move to that for my makeup.

I have a ro unit that i am looking to sell, its a 3 stage and ro/TFC module will reject like 93% and the booster pump if u are interested ?????

PS. u can add a DI for 50 or so bucks to make it an awsome unit, i added a DI to my culligan unit in my house with well water.......
