RO/DI Units

Hi,

I am looking into getting an RO/DI unit. This will provide monthly water change water and topoff water for my 120 reef tank. It will also provide weekly water changes (10-20 gallons) for my Amazon tank. I have a few questions:

What size (gpd) should I get?

Who is a good supplier/brand?

Thanks.

Nate Terry

I just got a Optima Vision from Purely H20, its a 75 GPD for a very good price! You will also save 10% cause your a RC member. Its so easy to install, plug and play, 0 TDS from the start.

I just got my new Typhoon from Air, Water and Ice, Inc. today. It is a 75gpd ro/di and it came with a float valve/auto top off system.

I researched different brands before purchasing this unit, and they seem to have gotten great reviews.

If you get a higher GPD, the purity of the water supposedly goes from 98% to 90%. So, I chose the lower GPD.

Also picked one up from the FilterGuys to replace an older WG model. Very happy with this unit. I decided on this model
OCEAN REEF + 1 FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI

on ebay if u search for reverse osmosis u will find a buch that r 6-stage/100 GPD for like $90 shipped, i bought one from them and have had if for 6 months. it works great

Re: Ebay - just make sure those filters on the unit are the standard size and don't require any proprietary filters.

I had a several week email conversation with Jim from the filterguys.biz and now have a 6 stage RO/DI and have 0 tds water. If you have any questions, Jim was very responsive and informative. I heartily recommend them. Make sure you tell whoever how you plan on supplying water to the unit so you can buy the correct adapters so it can be "plug and play".

Not to start a debate but I agree with AustinVines on the ebay units. I had a WaterGeneral model off Ebay and when it came time to replace filters and membranes to better ones the cost got $$$. Wanted to replace 100gpd membrane with a better performing 85gpd one also. I ended up talking with Jim also and he walked me through all the possible needs and stuff I didn't need. They don't try to sell you something you don`t need and even get you to check with your local Water People to see what's in your water to make sure you get the right filters (ie: chloramine) I went with the unit from them and had it made with the parts I would need and wanted. Due to low pressure on the line where I had it installed he helped me work out a kit for the pressure pump also. Everything comes with diagrams, directions and all the fittings you may possibly need for different installs. It works much better than my Ebay unit did and 0 TDS coming out after over 200 gallons already. The Vertical DI canister performs better than the horizontal units that can sometimes create channeling like my WG unit did. I have a RO bypass now for drinking or the like and flush valve which the Ebay unit did not have I can pump out 5 gals of water in about 40 min. Make water for my tanks as well as 2 neighbors I got involved in SW tanks now.
Air Water and Ice is supposed to be a top notch unit as well as the Spectrapures. DesertRat here on RC can give you loads of info on them.
I now have this unit installed. Yellow line is RO/DI, Blue is RO bypass and unit has another pre-filter for pump as well as a Vertical DI unit for better performance(left container next to main unit). Also has in line TDS for water in and out although I double check output with a handheld TDS meter also.

I had a Maxxima Hi-S - hated it.

I just got a The Optima Vision RO DI system with Dual Inline TDS meter DM1 from PurelyH2O a week ago. I was an idiot using carbon activated tap water. What an idiot I am. Never use tap water!

Needless to say... soon as I started using this my polyps all popped out.

Very happy customer!
