I'm in the process of setting up a new system and am in need of finding a local supplier of ro/di water that will deliver. We just moved here a few months ago and have just found out that the well water on the property is not condusive to make ro/di water for the tank. Does anyone know of a local supplier that will deliver?

you can try to call the local fish stores like aquatics or hoffers ..
dont know about the delivery .. might have to have your well people come out and see what they can do to get you some better water ..

maybe a cold steril unit would work.

I have no idea what that is. Do you have a link or info to look at?

How come a RO/DI unit will not work for your well water?

I have lousy well water. I use the softener as a prefilter. The RO unit will not have to work as hard removing salt, as it does calcium/magnesium/iron/etc.

It will work, however with a high tds reading (1213), and the ph at 7, it causes co2 to enter the water. Even with a larger softner unit and an iron filter for the house I'm still getting co2 after the water has been treated. CO2 burns through DI resin very quickly (according to all the ro companies I've dealt with). Since I need to make alot of water initially as well as a fair amount monthly for top off, water changes ect. I need to eliminate the co2. Right now I'm working with a couple companies that I think will help me out. Time will tell if everything will come together.

One option would be to run the water thru the RO system. Then let the CO2 outgas in a large storage container. Then pump the water thru the DI into another container for mixing.

Wow, that's an impressive TDS reading Tom! Thought mine was bad at 800 before the softener and 850 after the softener. Never heard of the CO2 content though.

How do you measure the CO2 level in your water?

At what point does CO2 enter well water, higher TDS, low PH, or both? When does it become a problem?

thanks

Those are some very good questions. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can answer them. The only one I can answer is the co2 number and I didn't even gather that number. I sent water to Spectrapure in AZ and they determined the co2. If you have concerns might want to contact them.

Good advice! In fact that's what a couple of the companies have recommended. I'm trying to avoid having another storage container sitting around in the work room, but I'm getting anxious to get water in the system. I just finished the lighting and plumbing today so now it's time for water to be added. I may have to go that route. Thanks again!

btw-just read the 5/2006 article on your tank...awesome looking -

Thanks! It was tough breaking down that tank for some of the pieces and fish were at the ten year mark in my posession. I'm looking to go the sps route this time.

I did finally order a RO/DI unit last week and will end up degassing the water myself in a contaner. I hope within a week or so I can finally start making some water. It will probably take 10-12 days to fill the system.
