RO DI water

Any recommendations on a good RO DI system? It doesn't look like they sell them at Lowes or Home Depot.

I see some on bulkreefsupply and marinedepot. Any recommendations? I'd like a good one, but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, either.

i've heard good things about the BRS branded ones.

i myself purchased one of the SpectraPure refurb units a while back, and have been very pleased with it. it is a 90gpd, and being a refurb was quite affordable.

Dumb question, but you really do need the RO DI? Filtered water from my fridge won't work?

Can you get it to work? Probably...Will it cost more? Absolutely. You are far better off getting a RODI system for your tank. It removes far more than your standard fridge filter and will save you a massive algae headache among other things.

I purchased the refurb SpectraPure 90gpd along with a dual tds meter and am very happy with it so far. My local water supply is around 120 TDS and filters out at 0.

Yes, and no. RODI is one of the best investments, along with lights and a protein skimmer. Otherwise, you'll be battling hair algae and diatoms; or trucking to your LFS to buy 5 gallons at a time.

I picked up the Aquaticlife RODI Buddie. 100 bucks at Marine Dept. Been up and running for two week. No complaints thus far.

Very happy with my BRS 4 stage. Keeps my 110g reef and 12g nano supplied with plenty of RO/DI.
Replacement of filters and resin is a breeze.

I had an ispring 5 stage system sold on amazon which was okay. I have 350 tds on average and it brought it down to about 25 tds and after the di stage 0. I decided to get a brs 5 stage system because it seemed to be better quality and the kit I bought had alot more features (I know I could of added them to my current kit but wanted to get a new system). The brs system brought my tds down to 4 and after the di stage I get 0 no problem. So while both kits worked im much happier with the brs kit.

Also, make sure to get a Auto shut off, they are cheap and will save the probable overflow. My wife has came home three times to a flooded laundry room. :) She was not thrilled.

You will end up with problems if you do. That would be like using one prefilter on a RO/DI system and it still wouldn't be as good as the prefilter. An RO/DI has 4 to 7 filters on it some may have more.

You definitely want to invest in a good quality RO/DI unit. For example, I have tested the TDS out of my refridgerator's filtered water. It was not much better than out of my tap, around 150. While this is good for drinking, it will just cause problems after problems in your reef tank.
