Ro/di

yes i know there is an equipment forum, but I wanted opinions from my fellow- local reefers.

In search of a ro/di for my new setup. seems like there is a lot of comotion about 2 systems/ vendors:

Typhoon III from airwaterice.com
Optima Pro from purelyh2o.com

Any input on these guys or your personal ro/di unit would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Both are great companies.

I have had the Typhoon III for several years now and it has worked great!

As for purelyh2o, I talked John several times and he gives a great deal to RC members. Plus the additional options are sweet! Like the dual TDS guage, built-in pressure gauge. I will be purchasing the Optima Pro from this place in a few months.

I will be keeping both though, with the new tank coming in a few months I need to make as much water as I can get.

Supposedly you get a free float valve at airwaterice if you mention you're on RC when ordering. That might sweeten the deal.

Just my opinion, but the parts are pretty simple and probably made by the same companies in China anyways. You can save some money by getting one from ebay. Just make sure you stick with one of the companies that a lot of people have experience with. The only two shortcomings might be that the membrane is not as good and the DI is horizontal. Even if you replace those two items, you'll still spend less. fwiw, a lot of guys will quote 90% vs. 98% efficiency. In real life however, I think the difference is much less. For example, I consistently get 95% or better on two units I have and a lot of people with the 98% typically get less than that.

hey sps

why not go w/ another typhoon? trying to compare both companies?

Wanted to try something new. Although you can't beat the warranty provided by airwaterice.com

Waranty

Waranty

What type of waranty does AWI offer?

We have a 3 year waranty and a guarantee on the membrane for 1 year and a 30 day no questions asked return policy.

Hey Bryan,

From AWI:
Lifetime support, Lifetime replacement of any failed hardware, 30 Day Un-Conditional Money back guarantee.

I'll be giving you a call within the next few months to get the Optima Pro after I finish setting up some equipment. :D

AWI has been experienceing several customer service issues lately. Just look at the vendor forum...
I have been dealing with Bryan at www.purelyh2o.com lately and in my opinion/experience he can't be beat. Very helpful on this board, gives RC members a 10% discount and his products are very high quality. His Optima series is awesome...everything you need. He's got an 800 number and has always answered the phone when I have called.
Good luck with your decision! Let us know what you decide!
Oh...enter the coupon code RCDJB8HL for the RC discount.

Cool

Cool

Same basic waranty..lol
The only hardware that could fail is the ASO or the flush kit :)

I will be waiting

You've seen the rest why not get the best.....Spectrapure

Charles, the unit you saw in my garage is a Spectrapure (7+ years old). Without a doubt they are the best but you will pay for it. I think my unit runs about 350.00 right now. IMHO, the only thing that's worth it is the RO membrane, the rest of the filters are top notch but nothing you can't buy from MD or CA. They test each membrane to make sure it has a high enough rejection rate.

These thing are pretty basic. I'd get a good unit from the two places you mentioned and when its time to replace the membrane I'd get one from Spectrapure.

FWIW, all the TDS meters are cheapo units the give you a ball park reading. Their good to have but they shouldn't be a deal maker or breaker and make sure you get a flush kit.

yeah i have had a lot of trouble tring to get a hold of Walter at AWI... actually i havent been able to get a hold of him

that unit that purelyh2o sells looks sweet....

yes good point. seems to be the theme when AWI comes up.

Hard to run a biz if no one is there to sell you anything.

Sounds like AWI is going downhill in the CS department..wasn't like that when I bought mine 3 years ago. Good thing I'm going to try the purelyh2o then.
