i hooked it up today now why is the water comming out in a rusty color?????

is the unit new or used?....a RO filter that has been sitting unused could make that happen

its a brand new cartrige

the manufacturers reccomend running about 10 gallons through it before using the water....how much water have you run through it?....and what is the TDS of the water coming out?

i stoped after i seen it comming out rusty and i dont have a tds meter

I would run about 10 gallons through it...and see what it looks like then.....and get a TDS meter...using one is the only way to insure that you are getting pure water from your unit.

the unit is used the cartriged is new

Mine did the same for a few minutes, More of a black color but let it run for a little while like Upstatedave said and see if that dont help.

yes but you didn't change the ro membrane just the prefilter cartriges. tds meter are only about 25 bucks... Let it run out the 10 gals and see what happerns

if the RO membrane is used and has been left idle in the cartridge for any amount of time it is probably shot....usually over a month will ruin them if they are not kept wet and refrigerated
