RO membrane shelf life

Does anyone know know the shelf life of a membrane that is still sealed in the package? I've had it for about 8 years, so I doubt if it's any good but not sure.

If it is a dry membrane, shelf life is unlimited. If it has been tested, ie Spectrapure, 1 year.

If you run tds meters throughout your system I would definitely try it out before I tossed it in the trash. Does not really hurt anything if you watch it carefully for a while. Like I am pretty sensitive when I noticed my DI resin get used up fast which would tell me something is not working right like if I installed an old membrane which was bad.
