RO system problem

I have learned alot from this site, and one of the most important things i have learned is dont skimp on prices and not expect problems. And now it comes back to get me.

I recently purchased a Aquasafe RO off ebay, and no matter how long i have it hooked up the system will hardly produce any water out of the membrane, it seems to be going just through the waste water line. Heard that psi could be a problem, but tests at over 65 psi and tds at 115.

Im just wondering if anyone has had this problem of the system not producing any water, and what they did to fix it.

was there a flow restrictor in the waste water line???
If so, maybe it isn't the right one. If not, it should have one.

Other than that, I would recheck to make sure the whole unit is plumbed correctly, and that there are no obstructions/kinks in the product water line.

Is there a flush kit? If so, is the valve for it opened?

Is there an auto shut off? maybe it is defective (but then, water shouldn't flow through the unit at all).

All I can think of right now.

is it used if so the membran is bad. membrains cant have water or humity touch them then go dry agian without breaking

the valve on the waste line is in the corrent position, forgot to post that part. I am thinking the membrane might be the problem, didnt know about that you couldnt get them wet then dry again, stored it away for a few weeks after i tried it out when i got and made sure it worked.

Also, on the tds measurement, shouldnt the number be lower after going through the 3 prefilters?

Thanks for the help.

I could be wrong here, I just got my system and I'm still figuring it out, but IME more water goes through the waste water line than out of the DI filter after the RO membrane. Mine is a 100gpd unit and seems to produce about a gallon of RO per hour - counting the waste water, I guess you could say it processes 100g per day  but I find the figure misleading.

That's true, membranes should be kept wet once thay get wet.

The TDS won't necessarily be lower after the prefilters. The particulate filter will only trap undissolved particles which wouldn't show up on a TDS meter before the filters. The carbon filter will absorb organics which also wil not show up. Only dissolved ionically charged molecules will register on a TDS meter.

OK

OK

2 questions here.

#1)How many GPD is your system rated at?

#2) What are the numbers printed on the flush kit?

Give me those numbers and we can go from there :)

I believe that it is the membrane, i knew i shouldnt have taken it out of the container and then let it dry. Well, what is life except learning from your mistakes.

Thanks

Ouch!

Ouch!

I just went back and re read the second post you left.
You are correct. You cant let the membrane dry out after it has been used. That would be the culprit!
