RO unit input temp.

I know having a warme temp into the memberane is good. But the way I have the unit hooked up I can only install the heating thing before the membrane but after the sediment and carbon filter. My question is if the temp makes a difference to the sediment and carbon filters. I can heat the water going into the membrane, but not into the filters. Dose it affect the filter efficiency?

Ok i hooked it up the way I said I was above. it raises the temp to 63F. Is this high enough to make much of a difference?

I would think thats fine.Mine comes in at whatever the tap is. What kind of RO do you have that has a heater anyway? Try the Lighting, Filtration & Other Equipment forum.

The higher the temperature, the more efficient the unit is (waste:RO) but rejection rate goes down because warmer water opens the pores in the membrane. I go with a low temperature, straight from the tap. This gives more waste but product water is more pure. Up to 5% if i calculated correctly.

As for heating the water before the filters, i don't think that would make much of a difference, its jus the membrane.

I've also read that higher temps damage the membrain but I don't think 63 is what the mean about high temp.

Sorry i should have worded that differently. I ran some tests between incoming temperature (about 59 degrees) and room temperature (about 72) and found and increase in TDS of about 5% in the warmer water. I still haven't calculated wasteroduct differences but there was noticably more product with increased temperature. Again just my observations and tests i did in my spare time.

You generally will find higher tds in the warm tap water than in the cold tap water.
