can you hook up an ro unit to a washing machine faucet? this would be my best place to set one up Thanks

dont see any issues with that. it is water. you will need to make sure you have all the proper pressure fittings though...

That is exactly how I have mine set up. I use a Y-adaptor with valves to split the water between the washing machine and the RO unit. That way I can turn the water to the RO off. I can take a picture this weekend if you want.

theop and boofer,

Do you know what size connection the washing machine uses for its supply? I just ordered a RO/DI unit on ebay, and they asked what kind of connection I wanted.

The options were the saddle valve (which I don't want) or the type that hooks up to a garden hose type connector...but they had it in both 3/4" and 15/16".

I told them 3/4", but now I'm not so sure.

You did right..standard 3/4 is what you want to connect to your washing machine....get a 3/4 hose Y splitter that has the valves on it from HD or Lowes. Screw it on your washing machine connection, then one goes to your RO, one goes to the washer. Leave the washer side on at all times and turn the RO side off and on as needed (unless your using a Auto Shutoff Valve).

Sweet...thanks for verifying that it was the right size. I'm usually pretty good about that stuff, as I've had some building experience. I just thought 15/16" was a little too big, but I wasn't 100% sure.

They are shipping it out today, so HOPEFULLY I'll have it by Friday or Saturday.

So I'm just getting around to hooking up my RO unit, and I've immediately come to a stopping point.

I ordered the 3/4" adapter thinking it was for a garden hose/washing machine type. Turns out, 3/4 is too small.

On top of that, with what they sent me, I don't think I can hook this thing up. I'm going to need some additional fittings.

Can someone help me out with what I need? It looks like I'm going to need some sort of 15/16" FPT to 1/4" FPT in order to make this work.

This is what they sent to me which is all kinds of wrong.

I don't have mine set up like that, but it seems like when I helped Casey out, he had similar parts. The piece with male and female threads goes between the main line to the cold water under your sink (just an extension, if you will). I believe the piece with the ball valve then screws into that. That allows an always on feed supply to the RO unit (unless you close the valve). I could be wrong, though...

I believe Ive seen the 3/4 faucet to 1/4" tubing adaptor at HD, Lowes. Just get that and you can 86 the rest. Be sure to get that Y hose adaptor with the valves, so you can have an on/off on both the washing machine and the RO unit.

The adaptor should be plastic with the quick-connect fitting for the tubing...The hose Y will be metal. If they dont have the adaptor, they should have the parts to go from the washing machine connection to the RO tubing you can piece together. GL
