RO Water and Apartments - Your Solution?

Hey All,

I've been contemplating purchasing an RO filter lately but space is a concern. I'm using about 10 gallons a week for water changes and top off. I don't have room for a large storage tank. And most of the filters I see are for creating a lot of RO water. At first I thought I could just buy a 75GPD filter, generate 50 gallons then shut it off for a month. A more experienced buddy told me this was no good as turning the filter off would cause the membranes to dry up and go bad quickly.

So my question for you guys is how are you creating and storing your water if you are space constrained? Is there a 5GPD RO filter out there that is worth the money? Are you storing your water in the ceiling? I know there are a lot of creative folks on here so I was hoping somone came up with a solution already.

Thanks!

I have a 150gpd unit that I hook up to my kitchen sink and run rodi tubing from the unit to a couple of 30g storge containers that i keep hidden under a desk in the back of the apartment. I make about 60 or so gallons a month adjust stor ethe rodi unit in a pantry closet in the kitchen. Water remains in the chambers so no worries about the filter drying out, you just need to flush the unit a few minutes before using if it's been more thank week or so without activity
