Road trip interest?

Mel, all i need is my redbull(which i will already have one in me, i have to coach in the am!) and ill be good to go!

okay so i heard that you guys n gals went to ABC ,so what did you think ? i really like the store myself mainly because its first a great store and second its in my back yard too ! oh yes, and Dave ,Tim and Jeremy are all good friends of mine so i always wish them the best .i am not making any excuses but as i stated before ya all came that they were at about 60% as far as stock is concerned but still alot of great stuff and good deals too ! let me know what you think please ....................

I thought the store, livestock and staff were excellent and worth the trip without a doubt! For only being about 60% stock I was wishing I could have taken more of the available things home with me. I was loving the cardinals (the striped ones up front and the threadfins in back) as I've long thought of adding a group. The Zebra Angel was gorgeous, the acro frags were excellent and there was such a mix of coral that I had to do like 4 laps at least before being able to narrow down what I was going to buy. That blue reef lobster? Had I not just gotten a purple one, that would definately have come home with me. The price of RC salt, unbeatable. I don't have one single negative thing to say about that place and can guarantee another road trip in the future. ;)

I also had to make like 4 trips around and finally got a pen and started jotting things down before i narrowed it down to something around a mortgage payment....lol. I was out there before for the swap, and I love how attentive they are to their customers...taking time with each one...even when it was busy...and it WAS BUSY. the acro selection was incredible and the prices? wow. all and all, a great trip!

did you like the lookdown tank ?glad to hear that you liked the store and yes the owners are very approachable and open to anything you may wish to talk about .i wish that i could have been there but i got in the middle of the tank tear down and just couldn't stop half way .this weekend i will be actually removing each tank and taking down my prized oak wall stand consisting of 12 tanks .i hope i don't regret it but i just have to move on for now .

Loved the lookdown. :) Gorgeous tank and I couldn't take my eyes off the seahorses. Good luck to you with the tear down. You're still keeping a tank or two though right?

omg yes , i have five reef tank left and will be putting up a monster 250 gallon in that room peninsula style 5'x3'x30"tall so it should be a great tank but i will be doing that as a summer project .did you see the light above the look down tank ? the bulb is the size of a pinkie fingernail .

I've heard some really mixed reviews on the plasma bulb. I don't want this to send the thread in the wrong direction, but.... I still haven't heard what PAR measurements are?

they have done some par measurements and if I'm not mistaken it was in the three to four hundreds at four feet from the bulb . there is a bit of a problem with the reflector that was supplied and they are working on that right now so they can get a wider spread of light and move it closer to the tank .i will ask Tim exactly what the par readings are ,they just tested it last week . and yes it is new technology so there are ups and downs to the ongoing R&D on this type of light .

Steve Canyon, the par readings were in the mid 300s depending where they were taken .they are adding a bunch of leds to get it that blueish color as the plasma light seems to go yellowish when on the higher end as it is dimmable . when you get into the blues its at about 25% if that helps you at all .

I really am interested in the overall economy of this technology. I haven't read enough reviews yet to draw any conclusions. Any recommended reading would be great. Not promo type though please. Scientific study results are what interests me.
thanks guys, and best of luck with it!

because they are just developing them there really is not any info out there . ABC actually is conducting a "study" for the manufacturer as to its capacity to maintain and grow corals . i will hook up my kWh meter and see what type of amperage it uses and let you know . the builder states it produces 1300 watts of light and that should use some serious amps but the cords are thin and i know its not using big power . anyway i will get a reading on that too . you can google it but there is very limited stuff and most doesnt pertain to a large light like theirs.

Shuffle off to Buffalo. Picking up two skimmers. one HOB for the 55g to replace the (please don't laugh at me) Berlin Airlift...which, does work great, but not into cleaning it everyday...and the Octo NW-150 for the 120g. There is a proposed stop at Oliver's Candies and ARC....of course.

thanks...i'm a little worried about Olivers and ARC. if i stop at Olivers first...i'll be so high on chocolate that i'll buy everything at ARC. If i go to ARC first....i'll be so distraught over how much i spent, that i will buy everything at Olivers to control my guilt......lmao.
