Road Trip to Brighton, NY

Well it seems I'm making a road trip this Saturday to pick up the tank I purchased from Namyar. Never been out to the Rochester area as I don't travel much. But I've heard a lot good things about a few good Reef Stores out your way. I'm wondering how far they are from Brighton? I would like to visit a few if time permits.

Also while out that way I'm wondering if anyone has a few frags of different Paly's- Zoas they would like to part with? I'm continuing to add to my collection and could always use more. And I have no idea when Ill get a chance to get back up there. I need to bring a few of the Rochester gems back down here that I'm always seeing for sale on the forums..

Mel from Brighton how far away time wise are these shops? 15 mins, 1/2 hour, longer? Just trying to figure out my itinerary for tomorrows roadtrip.

The Reef Shoppe will blow your mind. It's amazing. Prices leave much to be desired but that place is beautiful IMO.

I put each of the stores' addresses in to Mapquest and just used from Brighton, NY and got the following:

ABC Pet City = 13 minutes / 7.21 miles
Caribbean Forest = 9 minutes / 4.82 miles
The Reef Shoppe = 9 minutes / 5.6 miles
Marine Oasis = 27 minutes / 18.55 miles

Depending on where in Brighton you'd be leaving from, those could vary a tiny bit. :)

Dave, don't go all that way, get that close and NOT go to at least TRS and CF. Never been to ABC or MO myself, but I'm sure they'd be worth the price of admission.

Oh, and,.....you bought another tank?????

Agreed. CF and TRS are both basically around the corner from me but I make it a point to pop in at all four when I've got some $ set aside. This will probably seem funny but I try to buy evenly from all because I don't want to lose any of them. :)

Thanks for the info Mel.. I'll try to fit as many into my schedule as possible. I have a wedding to attend back home by 3:30pm. Otherwise I would visit all of them.

Cully I sure did. Bought a 90 gallon. There is a reason to my madness.. :lol2:

Going to use the 90 gallon to house everything while I take my time and break down the 180. Will be selling that with the stand, canopy and lights. The 90 gallon will be in a temporary spot while I prep the location were the 180 tank is now....

Prep for what you ask..... We have decided to go forward with a 300 gallon build. But the agreement was the 180 tank had to be moved out first. Part of me is looking forward to the new build and the other part isn't.. :fun5:

ahh brighton, reef capital of wny:lmao: rochester is tiny, i used to walk from my house to cf and the reef shop. i'd plan to make a stop at trs and cf. on my way back home i'd make sure to stop at abc pets. all three have something to offer. abc has some really cool fish in right now. aja noodle in brighton is a decent place to grab lunch. big bowl of carbs should help u make it through the day.

Okay - if he's grabbing lunch, he should get a sub at Palermo's - right in the same parking lot as CF. Sausage and onions = delicious.

Made it back home with the tank. Yeah... That was a nice drive.

Now I must say...you people in Rochester are soooo "SPOILED" :lol2:

To have a place like The Caribbean Forest next to you is unbelievable. Top notch place with everything you would ever need. Not to mention the very friendly and very hospitable owners. Can't say enough about that place. But hey all of you already knew that.

I plan on making it back out that way sometime this summer to make some purchases. Mostly a custom sump and possibly sooner for that awesome big flat piece of rock I seen upstairs.

And Mel yeah those subs were awesome thanks for the suggestion..

Lizz suggested the subs (I've still got to try one) but by any chance were you in there with a friend around noon-thirty-ish? I saw two guys in there I'd never seen before but didn't want to blurt out "hey, are you Dave?" lol

Yes that was us! I was wondering if that was someone from the boards.. Heck don't be so shy next time... Have you seen that big flat piece of rock upstairs? How cool would that look in a 300 gallon?

Matt I went to the Reef Shoppe. Very nice looking and they had some nice tanks.. I was just more impressed with CF.

Ha ha. Sorry, my brain was still absorbing my caffeine for the day and not functioning on all cylinders. lol OMG yes, that rock upstairs is sweet and would definately be super cool in a 300g!

The livestock at trs is insane. customer service not so much. cf is such a nice place and the staff go way out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Glad you made it to Palermo's also Dave - love that place. It's been extremely useful in convincing hubby that we should "just stop by" CF on the way home ;)

I'm glad u got a taste of the Roch stores. They are spoiled indeed! Makes you appreciate ABC Reefs. Tim did a great job putting together a store that is of the same caliber for us in Syr. I do have to say my favorite was The Reef Shoppe based on ambiance and presentation.

Dave, I may end up buying that tank off you when we move! I bet you're glad you went for the bigger Skimmer!!!
