This just doesnt seem to be working on NRV forum so we can just do it here. What do you guys think of changing our name to attract more people and get this forum running again. Then we can hopefully just get it down to one forum for the area or state. It doesnt mean we are officail and you have to travel the state for meetings, just one central area for our forum. And please, EVERYONE VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do think Virginia should be the first word so in the forum list new people can find us. And if you have any other suggestions for names post them here.

What if we were to change the name of this club to something more state wide. We could let all the other clubs know it was created for this purpose. We would then have away of getting to know more of the peole that are still "local" that we really have nothing to do with. It doesn't mean we have to have formal statewide meetings. It would just be a place for everyone to get together. I don't like feeling like an outsider in allthe other forums. I'd like it if there was a larger forum for everybody to use.

I voted for Virginia Southwest Virginia Reef Club. Just so you all know how I voted. :D Don't make any changes would be my next vote. It is up to us to talk to each other and we are all from around Roanoke area. Don't think the people from Richmond area really care when I am on their forum or not as they have not seen me and don't know who I am. Still talk there anyway. :D Michael R

I hardly ever use the other forums on here for answers to my questions. I like to ask in our forums and get answers from people I talk to all the time. Everyone on our forums seems to give honest advice to our questions. What you get is a bunch of BS from the main forums. Most people just comment on everything without having personal experience in what you are asking or they just repost what they heard from someone else. I'm not saying I want 1000 people on our forums but more people with more experience helps us all out. Especcially if we talk to them everyday. Id rather get advice and opinions from a certain group of people on our forums than from 40,000 people who get their opinions out of their butt.

Did something happen that makes people in Va not want anything to do with each other? Did I mis something in history class? I don't understand why everybody wants to keep their club to just each individual city. I've always thought there was strength in numbers. We could still have a "close knit" club if it ventured beyond our little area. We just plain don't have enough people around here to keep something like this going. It takes quite a few people to keep boards active and interesting. Why doesn't Va have a statewide club and why does nobody seem to want it? Can somebody fill me in. Obviously I'm not from here.

I think its the distance thing. I travel to both the Blacksburg meetings and the Richmond and people are amazed that I'm willing to drive 2-3 hrs to come to them. It must be nice to have a group close to home so you can pop in and "visit" members. JMO

FWIW I've always been warmly welcomed to all the meetings that I've gone to. IMO, its just a matter of getting out there and meeting people. Also remember all the trouble that the Richmond club had a while ago with Trolling.........I think it made some a little wary about opening up immediately to someone they haven't met.

Chris you are a Virginian now. I 100% welcome you,not that you need my welcome, oh and I am from Pa. The way I see it is Yes NRVRC and RVRC are close in distance, but many or even most on both sides don't go to each others meetings. I wish it was not this way but it is. Even though we are all Virginians I think the distance is what stops most from travelign to each others meetings. I would like it if we were combined but don't feel the need to include all Virginians as with the distance we may never meet in person. If it was only one Va Reef Club that is where I would be though. I also think we can change our name any time, just don't think it is up to us to change another clubs name. Our closest relationships will be with those we see. I talk on the Richmond thread and think they could care less as we have not met and if we do it wont be very often so i am not fresh on their minds. It is up to us whoever us is to keep the boards active, I am guilty here for not doing enough, also up to us to make it to each others meetings. When I have a question about something specific I often go to the forums as you get responses from people around the world not just Va, as I go to meetings that are local NRVRC and RVRC not world wide. As Colleen said we would welcome anyone and they would welcome us if we would just show up to the meetings. I can't wait till she has a meeting as I'm making the drive up to see her tanks and I hope we can go together as a group. Lets change our name and let others choose what they want to do. We may be pleasantly surprised. :D Your tank looked great today, yes I am jealous. :D Michael R

We are just trying to merge FORUMS, not areas. Roanoke can have their meetings, NRV can have theirs. It would be easier to new people to find us and easier for posting on us that are already here. Thats all! I wasnt trying to take over anyones club, they were agreeing to it by thier votes and comments. Nobody else seems to want to go past that point so I thought I would get the ball rolling. SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say " SORRY!!!" if all you were trying to do is put it out there. Even if they don't want to merge forums I'm sure they don't mind if we post on theirs. It would be good if Reef Central would put all of the clubs under a category of the State that they are in. Again we can change RVRC to anything. We are both new and growing clubs and it is up to us to be more active. Again, I too am guilty here as I have not been as active on our Forum. :D Michael R

All goldfish and guppies from here on out .......

i'll throw my 2 cents in here ...for what it's worth ..

I just got back from a trip to Mass. and I really have to say that , just the benifit of having any reef club for noobs like us (Candace and myself) is incredible. We need to be able to have contacts locally for info. trades and everything. On my trip in what little free time I had I searched for saltwater stores , hobbyists , and clubs and found absolutely nothing. So again just the benifits of having a network of experience for us to go to w/ all of our noob questions is incredible. I know if we didn't have the incredible people in NRVRC and RVRC to call when something strange happens for the first time or just ask a question , or look @ the different options that are available, we'd be lost ...So thats a Thanks to all the generous and knowledgable people in both clubs...I'm all for expanding the forumn and getting the group to grow. I know every chance I get to put this forumn out there to other people I meet I do it . Maybe combining forumns isn't such a bad idea . Every seperate group would have the same people @ the meeting , but maybe w/ combined forumns it would be a good way to get different members to go to different meetings. It absolutley couldn't hurt to look into it and make ourselves more accsessable to people new to the hobby... I know the most valuable thing we've found since being in this hobby is the info we've gathered from members like Ade , HOC , and ManderX ....these guys have experience and knowledge which is invaluable to people like us ... We need to give newer member who may fall outside the "local" lines a chance to gain from all of our failures and successes ....

How long are we going to give this? Only 12 votes:rolleyes:
I hate to say it, but I don't think this name change is going to do anything.
