Rock Cooking help needed

Let me start at the begining

I started off with a 55 and some inherited LR. I had poor lighting, poor flow, and poor water quality. As a result the rock was a breeding ground for hair algae.

I upgraded to a bigger tank and better lighting and a RO/DI filter and all was good. The hair algae remained on the rocks and I got tired of waiting for it to "naturally" go away.

I read quite a bit about "cooking" rock and so I removed all my HA infested rock and began the cooking process. I added some "new" rock so the tank would not look too bare while the "cooking" commenced. (that rock has remained algae free I am happy to say)

My problem is the rock has been cooking for almost 4 months and it still has HA on it. I must admit I have not been as diligent in the last few months about changing water etc but I was in the beginning.

I have the rock in a light proof tub, heated water, and a power head. In the beginning I dunked, swished and changed the water every two weeks but now it is more like once a month. When I do I still get lots of "stuff" out of the rock but the HA remains.

Could my water change schedule be why it is taking so long? Is it possible the rock is dead and there are no bacteria to feed on the algae?

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks

Remove the algae from the rocks manually (ex: with a brush) or place it into dark for a few weeks (or just turn them to their other side :) )

Algae cannot kill bacteria on the rock...
If you cook it in boiling water it can :DD
