Rock Flower Anemone & Maroon Clown??

I haven't seen my rock flower anemone host my maroon clown but the clown hangs out by it all the time, sort of in backn of the nem, under a ledge cavy type place. I came home today and the clown was pulling something long and slimy out of the nem, his poop I assume. Is this normal behavior when a clown is living with a nem??

Rock flower anemones do not host clownfish. They're an Atlantic anemone--there are no clownfish in the Atlantic. The anemone may be expelling waste. Keep an eye on it; if the clown is too persistent the anemone may become stressed and start to go downhill.

agreed x2! clowns don't host rock flower nems. I had two wild caught true percula clowns and they hosted a long tenticle anemone, a carpet anemone, and even my torch coral. they never thought once about the rock anemones. My neighbor has a maroon and it has never gone near his rock anemone.

Though Epicystis crucifer isn't a natural host for a maroon, by any means, on Sealife Inc. there is a picture of E. crucifer hosting a maroon. so it can happen apparently.

I had been told that rock anemone's didn't host clowns but I thought I'd read somewhere here on this site that someone had a clown hosting one. Thanks for all the info!

-1/+1 ... Atlantic/Caribbean Condy anemones will host certain types of clowns... I have personally had this happen many times in my own tanks over the past 30 yrs... But agree that I have yet to see clowns in a flower anemone.

Thanks for the link - have you ever ordered from Sea Life, Inc, - they seem to have pretty decent prices for things that Live Aquaria has priced much higher.

Ok, so now the clown is backing up to the anemone and flapping his tail at it, not on it but right next to it. Everytime another fish comes near it he chases it away. He doesn't appear to be bothering it at all. The anemone is all inflated and eats good, I feed him a 1/2 a shrimp every couple of days.

Years ago I ordered a few E. crucifer from them, which I still have now. My red flower I ordered from Diver's Den. And, it's done fine too. I think that species tends to ship well.

I currently have 8 flower anemones, some are over 8 years old, all were obtained from Reeftopia, in Key West... which is where I always order my Caribbean LS from, including Ricordeas and aptasia eating Pep shrimp!

Not mine, but this clown stuck close to this anemone for many years. She stayed so close underneath most of the time you couldn't even see her. Never went in tho.

Should all rock flowers have good color to them? Mine is white with pale green at the ends of the small tentacles. But it's always good and inflated, takes food well, I'm just wondering if this just happens to be this ones color.
