Rock From Ocean

Hay guys, I have a small rock i got from a local beach. It's less then a pound, it actually prolly weighs a quarter of a pound, and its been laying here in my room for some time, its dried up, so would it be safe to add to my tank or should i cure it? or not put it in at all?

it's illegal to take rock from the ocean... but it should be safe to add

I would cook it. Rocks can be laden with detritus and phosphates for a very long time, so get it soaking in saltwater with a small powerhead in there, and wait until it doesn't shed anything anymore, and see if it blooms algae if there is any light reaching it (best if there is no light reaching it).

Not from the beach, if is not inside water is legal.

If you take it from the beach and a Wildlife Officer catches you with it. Wether it is wet or not, you could get a fine or even jail. If it looks like the rock in the ocean and you are at the beach or so, they will come after you.
