I have run across about 100lbs of dead rock. i was wondering if its safe to wash off and clean and put in my tank im setting up from scratch or should i cook it? if i should cook it how do i do that.

What's the source? Only thing I would worry about would be if somebody treated with copper by mistake with these rocks in the water. I would soak it for a few days. Then blast it with a powerhead. change the water. soak a few more days. Then use it.

it was from a freinds amazing 75g thay he shut down and still has the rock. He said just help him loud it into my car and i can have it. It's all white now and just needs a good cleaning. so it's fine to clean and toss in my new tank when i finish the plumbing.

If you feel the rock is safe then I would wash it very well and put it in your tank. You will be "cooking" it in your tank. If you use rigid pipe to plumb your tank make sure to use a piece of flexible tubing for the last 6 to 8 inches to your pump to dampen vibrations. If you use all flex then wouldn't worry about it.

If you use rigid pipe all the way to the pump you can have vibration noise. The way around this is to place a piece of flex tubing between the rigid pipe and the pump. The flex will absorb the vibrations and not transfer it to the rigid piping. I have never screwed my pumps down, and not had the need to. The one thing that comes to mind would be it might cause more noise being attached to the stand.

Thats how I have my tank plumbed. Everyone has their own preference. I find using flex to be easier overall.
