Rock Structure Poll

Mostly Soft corals some SPS.

For the intended purpose you've not really left yourself enough mounting points. It seems the rockwork itself is fairly sheer... when it comes to growing things you're going to have a hard time. Also, it feels somewhat unbalanced, sort of more as though it was dropped instead of placed if you get what I'm saying? If forced to pick I'd say A, but even in it I think it definitely does need a fair amount of refinement to be useful to you and a visually cohesive base to work from.

I think the "C" option is worth looking into. I think you are leaning in the right direction with B, but you may want to connect the and make a bigger, more interesting structure that gives you more places to put thing and more options for layout of corals. You can have the arches, but bring the rock out and give it more dimension with islands, or parts that jut out towards the front, etc.

My tank is bigger, but you can get an idea of what I mean. Here's pic of mine. Every reefer who comes over comments on the rockwork.

MUCH better! Now you have a lot of options for coral placement. And, you have nice space on the sand for corals and clams as well. I vote for Option C!!!

Congrats. I look forward to seeing it stocked.

I like C much better, but I like a little more difference in height between the sides. It will help the eye flow from side to side. Id also like to see it if you took the top left rock off of the right hand pile. I also like it when the "peak" of a mound is not centered, like the left hand pile is. If you could move the peak slightly off center to the left that would help accentuate the valley in the middle and let the eye flow, it would also follow the golden rule, with the peak dividing the mound into the golden ratio. But remember, this is all personal taste, if you like it roll with it.

Much better! If it were me, I would put one or two small rocks on the bottom glass to connect the two islands down low but that is just me. As long as you like it and it works for what you are trying to do that all that matters. Oh and make sure its stable :)

Yep, That rock work is great,,
Better in person!

I agree with implementing a little more of a hieght difference. I figure when I transfer all my coral over, there are some on live rock that will add some height and depth to the structures.

I like C more, but still find the right side to be....irritating. It seems too unnatural the way the rock is currently balanced. Might just be me though, my planted tank days have left me a aquascaping nazi.

Guess I'm the only one that liked A, looked more natural. B looked to fake and C looks unstable. You have to remember that it will look completely different when filled with corals.I spent hours making my rocks perfect before adding corals, then with corals it was horrible! Seems the uglier the rocks, the better it'll be for corals!

Have you thought about looking for a skinnier arching rock to connect the two mounds at the top? Kind of like a bridge? Those pieces seem to be expensive, but are well worth it, imo.

I like "C" better, too. I still think a low "bridge" between the 2 structures would tie things together and provide some continuity.

I agree, C is much better but the left side could still use some work. This is the most fun part of setting up the tank, I think, so do something different, I see a lot of tanks that just have a big pile of rocks. Do something different and unique.

There's a bonsai thread somewhere that has some really great looking pictures.
