rock work

I am recently getting back into reefing. I have about 130 pounds of BRS reef saver and probably 60 pounds of pukani... if my memory serves me right, the pukani had to be soaked in a phosphate remover and then be cooked... Could I just purchase new reef saver and not have to cook it, other than a decent soak to clean it off? Or will I need to cook the reef saver rock before I start my cycle?

What is the advantages of using the pukani over the reef saver and vice versa?

I believe the pukani and reef saver are similar, but the pukani is more desirable due to being extra porous. The reef saver is cheaper, however.

I just purchased a bunch of pukani which is supposed to show up tomorrow and will then go through the cycle process in a brute container until ready.

pukani is lighter and more porous- so little bit goes long way but as you stated- make sure to get rid of phosphates before adding to tank. Reef saver is just basic fossilized reef/dry rock- and works great. Shouldn't need to cook the rock first- just rinse well before adding.
