RODI filter order

Question for everyone.

I have an MPDI90 Spectrapure. My filters are starting to get dirty and my flow output is significantly reduced (takes a good 2 hours to fill around 4 gallons of water). After a year I knew I was due for new filters so I went ahead and ordered a replacement set. Now, I ordered an additional stage for mine so I could do chloramine (spelling) removal as well.

Currently I am going:
sediment filter > carbon > chloramine > RO membrane, DI resin > container.

Would you keep the stages in this same order/ or move the sediment/carbon/chloramine around?

What you have is fine, or you could do a double chloramine. I have my 6 stage as:

sediment filter > chloramine > chloramine > RO membrane (dual), DI resin > DI resin > container.

I read on BRS it's better to use two chloramines in series. BTW, the chloramine is also considered carbon.

I would have two chloramines back to back, test your waste water every month with the BRS total chlorine test strips. When you start to get a reading pull the first filter, move the second into the first position then fresh filter in the second position. This will maximize the life/usage from each filter. You need more contact time to scrub out the chloramines that's why two is recommended.

When you install new carbons use your flush kit to flush the system for one minute to rinse away the fines.

Use the 5 micron carbon first then the 1 micron second

Let me give you a different perspective here.

The idea of smaller and smaller micron sizes on successive filters is a good one, but it applies to SEDIMENT FILTERS ONLY.

Once you get to the carbon blocks, the micron size(s) should be about equal to or larger than your tightest sediment filter. Install the carbon blocks IN ORDER OF LARGEST CHLORINE CAPACITY FIRST.

You'll want to put your best carbon filter, which should be your chloramine carbon block FIRST in order of water flow.
