RODI Question

I had been storing RODI water in a 32 gallon Brute container with a Brute lid which is fairly tight fitting. A couple of weeks ago I randomly measured the water with my TDS meter and the reading was 250. I thought I may have been getting an incorrect reading so i checked my tap water which was 75 (normal) and I made a small batch of fresh RODI water which was measuring 0. Emptied out the Brute, washed it out with some bleach and water and gave it a real good rinse. Made a small batch of RODI and it was holding 0 for a day or so which was enough time for me to fill my DT from evaporated water loss. I was about to make some saltwater for a water change with the water that was left in the Brute (approx 10 gallons) and measured it beforehand and it came up at 20 on the TDS meter. This water was made two days ago. I'm making a fresh batch to be on the safe side.

Is this normal for water that is made at 0 to go up so quickly? I'm assuming the Brute is clean, or as clean as I can get it. It was brand new as of 3 months ago and used for nothing other than storing RODI water.

I'm fairly new at this so i'm just wondering. Seems to me that it should hold at 0 for more than 2 days.

Thanks

Perfectly normal, there's all kinds of microscopic dust and debris in the air which will cumulate in your freshwater ,nothing harmful.hth
I know it's pollen season down here which gets everywhere

Thanks buddy. I was just paranoid that maybe there was something wrong with the container I was keeping the water in. I read in a few places that up to 15 is ok although i'd like to keep it closer to 0.

If you want to get an accurate reading with a handheld TDS meter, you'll want to take your sample in a very, very clean glass container. Don't touch the inside surface with your fingers, and rinse the inside surface with the water you're measuring several times.

Anytime you store pure water in a bucket, or brute, or something similar, there will be some contamination (e.g., dust) and you'll pick that up on the TDS meter.

15 ppm in DI water stored in a reservoir might be perfectly fine to use, but I wouldn't use 15 ppm DI water properly tested in a glass container as described above.

I also store my RODI in a 32gal brute with lid. Always reads 0 TDS. I make sure to never have to lid open for too long.

I store mine in a 32 or 35g brute which is enough for a month plus of ATO. I measured it today and it was at 51 TDS. It's been through RO/DI so I'm not worried about it and will still use it.

I've been cleaning the 32 gal brute every month or so and letting it dry out. Seems to help out for sure. My TDS on new water coming out has been 5 or lower for the most part so i'm not going to drive myself crazy. I don't think i'll get it much lower than that. Just think the brute needs a good cleaning every so often.
