RODI set up question

I was planning on setting my RODI unit of a Y on my washer cold line. I bought a Y that wsa heavy duty but wasn't thinking at the time. Want to make sure it is good to use. It is a heavy duty brass Y with ball valves on each outlet. Wasn't thinking about brass when I got it. Will it still be safe to use? Also wehn I pulled the tag off I notcied it said it contained lead? Not drinking water will come out of the unti just water for tank.

Thanks

It won't be in contact long enough to affect the water. But, if you're the type that likes to worry, don't forget that your water lines are probably copper... :D

ok I figured it would but when I saw that "this contains lead" on the tag I was like well poop. Ok I am gonna go mount this thing and hope there is no leaks.

If you're in your own house and don't mind putting a hole in a pipe, look into using a saddle clamp instead. If you're even semi-handy, you can cut out a section of pipe, sweat in a T and hard plumb it from there.

well we are kinda thinking about moving soon so I figured less damage to the pipes and it would be easier to remove and relocate.

make sure to test the output pressure of that...I did the same thing and if I would turn it all the way on, the pressure is too high and will ruin your membrane

there is a pressure guage on the unit, Optima Vision. I plan to keep a close eye on it. I had my motor go out on my water softner and while the repair guy was here he metered an outside faucet and said my pressure was a bit high. So I will be watching. I won't be making that much water either so that should save some wear and filters.

well it is making water. a few leaks on the filters but I tightened them up and seems to be chugging along. PSI is at 80 though. Not sure how bad that is. There is a ball valve on the Y so I can throttle it back, it will probably reduce the gpd but I use so little water that the unit will run maybe once a week.

I haven't set up the float valve that came with it yet. Need to figure out best way to mount it in my Brute. Also need to get a small powerhead or pump that I can use to pump the water out into containers. I was going to use a spare MJ but my hose doesn't fit lol. Still need to find a 10 gallon bucket for mixing salterwater. Anyone know where to get one?

Just buy a new piece of flexible tubing...It will cheaper than buying a new pump...It will only be like a $1-2.....If you're only looking to do 10 or so gallon mixing container, you can buy just a rubbermaid tub...Just make sure the material is safe...I can't remember but 80 PSI sounds high...might want to turn that down until you get another answer...It will blow your membrane and you'll have to buy a new one.

On the Typhoon III it states that it should not exceed 75 PSI so I would just guess, they would probably all be somewhere in that ballpark

hmm ok thanks for the info. I ran about 5 gallons out of it to test it. I am still hesitant about using a float switch, I just don't trust them. Rather manually make the water. I noticed that when I turned the water flow off the canisters seemed to empty. I was thinking of getting a connection for the outlet that had a ball valve so I could turn it off there. That way the unit stays charged. Any thoughts on that. I have heard too many horror stories about floods and the last thing I need it a ton of water in my laundry room. Wife already doesn't like the tank lol.
