RODI system recommendations?

MandM

sick yet brilliant
I'm looking for a new unit. I've seen one at Bulk Reef Supply, is there anyone local that sells good units that work well for reefers?

I would most definitely get a Filter guys Ocean Reef +1 great unit and customer service is top notch. has everything you need and then some

Doahh is on to something there, the ones John has are 6 stage and very reasonable. I have one myself and am a water makin' machine now. Get yourself one of the inline TDS meters from Marine Depot and call it a day. I bought mine a while back, but I believe they are still well under $200 and worth every penny.

melev has been selling them for a while as well.

I like John a lot and say go for getting his unit:)

But the filter guys for $226 shipped comes with a dual TDS meter a pressure gauge and is 75gpd.

The 100GPD unit/membranes have the worst TDS rejection rate 90% while the 75GPD has 98% rejection rate.

So if you get one from John i would definitely get a 75GPD over 100GPD if he carries both

Doug that melev unit is also $194 shipped and you get no gauges at all and its 100GPD. double whammy there in my opinion.

Filter guys $226 shipped dual TDS and pressure gauge. cant beat it.

Actually the very best unit on the market is the Spectrapure maxcap. I just didnt want to spend that money. BUt if money is no big deal you will not beat that unit. PM Azdesertrat. he knows all about these units and that one is by far the best he will tell you. He will also tell you to get a 75GPD over 100

I like to give more than one option so people can compare and contrast.

The melev site has a lot of RO/DI definitions which is the real reason I linked it. I am sure I wasn't the only one who was RO/DI stupid when looking into buying one and thought it would help.

The one I have works great, and am happy with it.

That's not true, the GE desal 100gpd membranes will get rid of a lot more than 90% you're looking at somewhere around 96-97%

Melev uses a GE 100 GPD which is very similar to the Dow 75, they just rate the pressure differently, GE= 100 GPD @ 65 psi, Dow=75 GPD @ 50 psi. They both equal 75 GPD at 50, 90 GPD at 60 and 100 GPD at 65 psi though.

I would definitely go with Filter guys or Spectrapure if money isnt an issue like $350 then its a no brainer get the spectrapure. If you wanna stay around $200 would definitely get the Filter guys ocean reef +1 both are RC sponsors.

If you look at there forums those 2 are by far the most active in those forums that also helped me decide. They both answer questions right away and are always super helpful

sorry 1 last thing to keep in mind. What ever unit you do decide on getting i would make sure that they have the clear canisters. I think Mihn can attest to that.

I've got the Spectrapure Maxcap and it was well worth it. Others may be just as nice, but I'm very happy with mine.

The Maxcap has the 1:1 ratio? or dang near it right?
Best RO/DI item out in the market right there. It doesn't matter which you go with, they will produce about 4:1 waste:RO/DI as long as you get an inline TDS, and pressure valve with top off.

That's the UHE Maxcap at 1:1, and it's $900. The normal Maxcap is your more typical 4:1, but it's got a 98% rejection rate, and the silica buster DI.

That site had a lot of information, thanks Dots. I'll check out the others. Price is a consideration but when a company does that much to educate customers it does a lot to win my business.

When picking one out - keep in mind the pressure requirements needed to effectively get the GPD. Most of our water supplies do not come squiriting out at 65 psi and will require a pump to pressurize the water input. I think most of us are lucky to get 35psi out of the sink from the City. :(

No such problem at my place in Roseville. I had to contact Spectrapure and find out if 90 psi was to high, as they have it rated for 80! Apparently it's not a problem until you hit over 100.

I get 35psi in Rocklin, but don't bother with a booster. It just takes twice as long...I'm probably getting 35-40 gpd with that pressure.
