Rodi Units Cheap?

John at your reef doesnt have that one but he has one from that guy, its the one for 61.99.

He says hes had them for years and hasnt had a problem.

Im gonna get one of those

the only thing is that do DI canister is only 12 ounces, but they do have a double DI canister unit....

Also modify the DI unit to run vertical

I have that ebay unit except without the tank (you don't really need a tank unless it's for a drinking water tap). I got it for like $100 shipped with an extra set of cartridges. Works just fine for my needs. I'm not sure it's quite the 250gpd as stated, but that could be a result of low water pressure as I'm in a high rise.

ok im confused what with all the posts about that guy that got banned, why it reminds you of this?

Raymond,

I don't like the DI cartridge on your unit. Once your DI is exhausted on that unit, you will have to replace the whole DI cartridge. Buy one with a clear DI container, and when the DI resin is exhausted, you just replace the DI resin. In the long run, it might be cheaper.

I have a unit like this one. Just remove the last carbon filter. Actually - I use the carbon filter for my icemaker. :D It's a lot cheaper than the $35 carbon filter made specifically for my fridge.

the one I was talking has a refillable DI unit on it.

Hey didnt we have this discussion awhile ago minh. LOL

Re: Rodi Units Cheap?

Thats the exact unit that I purchased and it is total crap. I am not going to get into any arguments with the FilterDirect crew again because I am just not up to it. If you need more info on why it's Junk, do a search and you will find dozens of posts on the subject. The short story is buy a Typhoon III from airwaterice.com it may cost a little more but you will save in the end. If you are still not convinced then go out and spend your money on this unit and don't complain later.

BTW sorry if I sound rude but this FilterDirect stuff is getting old Fast.

hey check this out on ebay.....I am thinking of getting one of these....Has anyone tried this brand.....It looks good enough.....Any recommendations on RO DI...

RobbyG - Interesting observation. I thought most people who had a Filter Direct or AquaSafe unit were generally better. I don'thave a Filter Direct unit, so I can't comment based on personal experiences.

Nu2SW - if you hang around long enough, you're going to have several conversations about RODI units. I would say do a search - but you can't unless you fork out the $25/year. *sigh*

Yeah I google, it gets me the threads anyways.

but with anything on the market for us consumers. Some people have bad experiences and some have great. All ro/di units do the same thing, but some just have better filters.

One thing I think it looks like is that the unit you are talking about on ebay has small filters, as some other "higher" end filters have bigger filters that use up the whole canister

I just purchased the Optima Professional Series RO/DI through Purelyh20.com, Reef Central's newest vendor forum company. I was looking for a filter that would do 100 GPD+ and with an additional cartridge and pump for under $300, I am hoping that they will come through.

Bryan, the owner, was very responsive to my emails and phone calls. With his knowledge and recommendations I hope that I'll receive a top of the line system.

What is wrong with the filterdirect unit?? I have one and I don't have any problem with.

This unit doesn't look like filterdirect unit any way...

i really appreciate the help.....but iam lost.....

would it be advisable or a good idea to get one of these units....

It looks like many of you have mixed reviews.....

But, I just want something that is dependable and most likely has some sort of quality assurance when it comes to fliltering the water.....

I just figured if iam going to drink this filtered water than it shoud be safe enough for my reef tank....?

:) :) :) :) :)

Plain RO water is safe to drink. It is not, however the best water for your reef. The DI removes things like phosphates and silicates that cause algae growth. DI water isn't supposed to be the best for drinking as it doesn't have all the minerals your body needs. It won't hurt you to drink it though.

There are lots of opinions on which product is the "best" no matter what you are talking about. You need to do your own research in order to make the decision. Everyone has a different situation and needs to find the "best" product for their individual needs.

Before I decided on my unit I read reviews from all over RC as well as doing Google searches. Besides those in our club there were 2 others here on RC that had very useful information for my decision --- Waterkeeper from SW Ohio and eruss from Columbia SC. You might want to check out what they have to say.

One of the biggest parts of our hobby is research---enjoy!

Everyone will always have mixed reviews...

Talk to john at your reef and ask him how his ro/di unit is doing and how he likes it.

You wanna talk to people that have the unit.

Minh has another ro/di filter that is about 15 more bucks then the one your looking at, along with totalkahos and they both recommend there's.

It also depends on what you can afford and when you want it. if you need one now and can only afford this one, then go for it. but I wouldnt get the one your getting, just because it doesnt have have a DI unit on it.

this is a double DI filter
http://cgi.ebay.com/Aquarium-RO-2-D...itemZ4457339683QQcategoryZ20684QQcmdZViewItem

This the single version
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Reef-6st-10...itemZ4457338774QQcategoryZ20684QQcmdZViewItem

The single is what minh is talking about taking out the carbon filter. If you can place the carbon filter before the DI unit or just take it out completely.

If you read the Link that I posted all your questions will be answered.
All the Top Water specialists on the forum gave there opinion on the EBay units, just read it and you will learn what to look for and what to buy. If your waiting for the experts to chime in again and help you out, you will be waiting a long time as most of them now aviod the whole Ebay debate.
