USC-FAN how long have you been doing this. Is R/O waster water your only source of water? I was thinking of using it for top off water.
No it uses more water than just waste water.

take the waste water and run two flexible tubing lines into your skimmer catch cup... run the "drain" on the skimmate cup back to your sink drain wher the waste water goes now... seems like you just got the waste water to clean out your skimmate for you... now thats got value... I saw a "volcano skimmer" not in production (it was a custom built unit) and it has H2o sprayers in the skimmate cup to continually was it out... I'm sure the waster ro H2o has enough pressure to handel this simple task

what do you think?

since when do we use RO units cuz of nitrates....? i dont have nitrates in my tap. to my knowledge we use RODI units to bring in phosphate free and 0 TDS water not necessarily nitrate free water.

If you have farmland anywhere in your vicinity, you probably have Nitrates off the chart (aka >zero...;-) in your tap water. They are a primary reason for RO/DI use. :-)

EPA Groundwater & Drinking Water link.
The Technical Factsheet on Nitrites/Nitrates has lots of good specifics. See if (where) your state is on the list!! :D

The bottom line: 10ppm Nitrates would not set off any alarms to the tap water people.
