Sounds like a nice tank Roger. I would suggest a different sump tank though. I just built my 120g and reused my old 55g for the sump. It works but the one regret I have it that it is just too tall and just a tad too narrow. A 40b or a 75 would have been a better choice. I have pretty much zero chance of adding an external collection container for my skimmer.

Thanks! I think the 55 will work out ok, my stand is extra tall and I can get to the sump pretty good. I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics off my phone without using photobucket. I'll post some pics soon

Put in all the salt in this weekend. Pic taken before it all dissolved.

Next is the heater and the lighting. Want to get this cycling. Not too much longer! Have a screen top to put together too.

Are you worried about micro bubbles from the right side? No bubble trap and a big drop is going to most likely cause them? Or is the water flow so slow to the fuge that no splash is created on that drop to the center?

I was debating putting in a bubble trap there and thought I would try it without one first. I'm planning on slow flow, and it's adjustable with a gate valve. No microbubbles even with a pretty decent flow through it, at least so far! It's a 9'' drop.

Salt was all dissolved and cleared up after work today! Putting in the sand tonight. I'm doing an aragonite shallow sand bed. Rock is BRS reef saver rock.

The only thing I would do different is put the fuge on the return line and not the drain. You are just going to give yourself more maintenance. The way you have it the heavy debris is going to accumulate in that circled area and possibly clog and if not all of it ends up in your fuge.

Something like this

That was my original plan, to run the refugium off of the return pump. I actually started to set it up that way, if you scroll up a couple pics you can see the t off the return line. But decided to give this way a try first. I'm planning on possibly putting in a very small powerhead in the refugium to keep it circulated. I have some display macros to put in there and want to keep it clean. I still have the piping to switch it off the return, but was going to try this first.

What is your opinion on the quality of the great lakes aquarium? I was thinking about getting one of their shallow longs. Looks food so far!

Thank you! I really like the aquarium.
I didn't order it from them personally, I got it from Paul and he ordered it from them. He also did an awesome job on building the stand. It's solid as a rock and you could park a tank on it lol!
