Rose Bubble

I have a successfull 40gal breeder with sps, lps and a couple anems. My water params are:

SG: 1.024
PH: 7.8
dkh:12
calcium:400-45
Nitrate: not detectable
Nitrite: not detectable
amonia not detectable
phos: unable to test
temp: 80 F

I use RODI water, which has brand new filters and membrane. This is used for ATO and water change. I use Red Sea Pro Salt. All of my corals are doing great except the Rose anem and my Devil's hand leather. Both of these receeded about the same time and have been ever since. The anem will come out but not for long before receeding back again.

On the norm I will feed the anem directly a couple times a week and feed the whole tank everyday. When the rose does come out I have been sure to feed. The leather has not come out at all but is still standing upright on foot.

I read that rose likes to have a ph of 8.-8.4. will this affect it that drasticly?
I did water change last week and prior to that my ph had always been up around 8.4, so there is a drop there.

So far I have put an airstone in the sump and opened a window all day to see if the Carbon Dioxide level was to great for proper exchange to happen within tank. This proved to be no affect. Today I am adding some instant ocean sea buffer, to see if that helps get ph up cause this is the only thing i can think of that will affect rose, is ph.

Anyone have any ideas?

What kind of lighting are you running? How long have you had the bubble tip? What are you feeding it?

It's normal for leather to shrink, sometimes for a week or two at a time. They do this when sloughing off the outer layer of their flesh.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I just got home from Myrtel Beach for vacation. I was trying to handle this before I left but ended up running out of time.

The leather has been doing great, but the RBT is now all black with only a couple tenticles hanging out defalted.

I have had him for about two months or so and he has been doing great until this. I feed Rods Food original, mysis , and ocassionally brine mixed with all. I usually feed a couple time a week at least. I am running 48 3w led over my 40 gal breeder. All of my coral are doing great but this RBT. I also am running a reef octopus nw-110 in the sump.

All though he is still holding to rock, he does not look good. Any thoughts on this would be greatly apreciated.

I actually done a check today and params are the same. Ph was slightly more toward the 7.9-8.0, which i consider low still. I am going to change water this evening and recheck in the morning for any changes.

After a 25% water change my ph is around 8.4 now and has been holding since water change. All other params are the same except i raised salinity to 1.025. The RBT is still looking bad but hanging on and still eating. I am hoping that it needs time to bounce back from the ph drop, which i assumed is what stressed him to begin with.

The whole tank is still doing great with no other signs of problems. All corals are beautiful and growing. Please, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Parameter are still the same, however the ph did drop back to 7.8 yesterday. I have been using an instant ocean ph alk buffer and I also extended an air hose from skimmer intake to fresh air outside. Ph is now back at 8.4. I am going to keep my eye on it to see if fresh air will be remedy or not. Here is a pic

Idk about that. Is there any other suggestions to look out for. I am unable to identify anything being a problem as of yet.

Check your tank at night with a flashlight and see if you can see anything sneaking about. There are some threads about setting up a crab trap. If you have one and trap it, you can stick it in your sump.

I do have an emerald crab that look similar to pics I seen while looking it up. At least it has harry legs. This has not given me any problems though as it was there before the anem, with no problems, and the RBT lived happily for about two months before doing this. Could this emerald crab be hurting my RBT?

I check my tank frequently while lights are off just checking on things, but never see anything out of ordinary. I wil continue checking for unwanted critters.

My ph seems to be holding for now and the RBT is looking a little better and has been actually acting normal except for extending tenticles. In other words, it is reaching for light with disc completely exposed, with most tenticles just a little inflated.

Thank you for the input!

How long has your clown been hosting this nem? My BTA went through similar changes after it started being hosted by a clownfish that was too large and too rough. Eventually the BTA changed a little, it got thicker and was able to absorb the rubbing by the fish.

My clown has been hosting since I got the anem about two months ago. The clown took to the RBT very qucikly. The RBT did not have a clown hosting when i bought it so this could be posibility. How long did your RBT go through changes?

My lights are on now and my RBT has actually got color in it now istead of being black in spots. However, tenticles are still deflated quite a bit.

Water parameters have persisted the same readings. Ph has been steady at 8.1 - 8.4. I am calling the problem with RBT was ph. I feel that it is doing better daily and getting easier to feed. Alltgough, my maroon clown has been brushing food out while swimming around/in it. Here is a pic now.

I am having issues with my nem as well, its not deflated like yours but it doesn't want to fully open. I posted a new thread about it. All my corals are fine except my nem, my ph is a little low at 7.8.. I am going to try some buffer as well and see if it opens up again like yours did.

I have been maintaining good water quality, as usual, and have been feeding my Rose fresh shrimp and scallops a couple times a week. Here is a pic today when the lights came on :) Looking like normal again, almost

Edit: in all this I forgot to correct my SG. I have been maintaining 1.025
