Ive been using rowaphos in my sump for about a week now and i can't see any difference in hair algae growth, not to sure if its got worse if anything. i haven't got a phosphate test kit yet so i can't test the water. is it to soon to see any change? i was looking at the red sea phosphate remover'has any used this with success. with the rowaphos i put about 150 mls for a 176g tank. thanks for any advice.

It will take awhile to see a difference, and without a test kit you have no idea if the media is exhausted,

Depending on your current Phosphate levels you may go threw the Rowaphos like crazy until you get the Phosphate to manageable levels.

You need to test both the tank water, and the output from the Reactor to see if it needs to be replaced

no reactor setup as yet. i've got a double BRS to install over the weekend. have you ever used the red sea phos remover?

Reactor is the best method to use GFO and carbon. I have the BRS dual reactor (split in two so I can better control the flow threw each). I have used rowphos, GFO and seachem phosguard. Like seachem best as it is the least messy

Depending on your PO4 levels, your Rowaphos could be exhausted very quickly, especially in the first fee weeks of treatment. It really takes some time for it to "kill" the algae as in making it disappear. You will know it is working when you can see the growth slowing and the algae will appear washed out and unhealthy. This is a good time to manually remove I as it pulls off the rocks easily.

Be prepared to go through some large quantities of Rowaphos. Do yourself a favor & buy another brand in large quantities - like BRS HFO. You'll save some $$ and you're more likely to change it more often.
