I change mine monthly. You're supposed to change it when it is exhausted. So, when you can measure any PO4, then you change it. I change mine monthly just so I don't have any fluctuation of PO4 rising and then dropping again.
Would anyone clarify why there seems to be a general belief that rowaphos is better than phosban, i just read RHF's article on the absorption rates of both and there is nill difference.
I was using a Salifert. It was always showing 0 phosphates, when I got the Merck, I was at .02. Since using Rowaphos, I have been able to get my PO4 down to 0, consistently.
I use a hanna colorimeter. The initial price is high, but after the purchase, it can be as cheap as .28 per test if you order the 300 sample reagent, or .34 if you order the 100 sample reagent. So it is not quite as pricey as it seems if you are going to be in this hobby for awhile.
My salifert test kit always shows 0 as well, but I find it hard to believe...especially since some of my SPS have been slowly turning white at the base, then start getting a green tint to them.

Yeah I've never been able to get a hint of color from those kits and yet I'm mysteriously able to grow cheato... a remarkable achievement considering the test says I have 0 PO4 :lol2:
